The title music is awesome. It's upbeat and clashes amusingly with what the game's actually about.

The in-game music, though, I agree, needs to be changed. It doesn't complement the action on screen very well, neither in a straight nor in an ironic way.

I actually did like the way the music worked quite a bit.
Make sure you put in some nice, loud sound effects, though. And not just for smashing into things... It seems like there just needs to be a bit more general background noise going on.

I agree about the speed thing, and I think it's weird that the background moves faster than the foreground.

Also, here's an idea with particle effects: Instead of streaming out circles, you could stream out duplicates of a small animation. Like if you animated one dust cloud dissipating, then spawn a whole bunch of em at random rotations, it'd look something like this.
That's actually fire, and it's an old example, but you get what I mean.

Those are some pretty rad particle effects. We already have a lot of particle's going on though, especially when you add in the wall of fire, so I'm not sure if it's worth adding even more and possibly slowing down the game.
