The new Alien: Romulus movie is very good. I urge anyone interested in seeing it to see it in IMAX if you can. It was so well done, by 30 minutes or so into it, I remember thinking, "I'm going to remember this experience for the rest of my life."

Here's a trailer:

Will I still have a good time if I think the best way to enjoy Alien is to very actively ignore anything else in the ~media franchise~ exists?
As much as I love a lot of the following cheesy action spectacle based on the premise and designs, all of it subtracts from the original work if taken as actually connected to it

In the tradition of not watching what anyone else recommends, I think aliens are a bit too gross for me to enjoy. My wife loves the series.

Just added this clip to my channel, seems no one has a 4k version online:

Interestingly, I have mysterious stomach pains, every few months and have tried a bunch of medications but it turns out that peptobismol actually cures it. Should have just tried it sooner.

I think so. I would say that the quality of Alien: Romulus is right on up there with the original. They made good choices with things like the corridor design and the retro computer graphics terminal design. It was also interesting to see an Alien movie where almost every character is young.

this one, infinite time loop, was a nice treat, very good script to come up with an interesting movie that probably only cost a few thousand dollars to make.

I'm about to finish watching the conceptually interesting sci-fi movie, On The Silver Globe (1988)

Also, I want to make sure everyone knows that the new Beetlejuice movie is a soul-less cash grab that had no script. They could have made anything they wanted and turned out a microwaved turd.

As much as I am a fan of having fun and playing around while you make art, this one seems like Coppola was playing with his toys for all of us to watch. Interesting that in his playhouse, women are at best support characters for the great men of the world, and also democracy is entirely co-opted by populist and corrupt would-be Hitlers.

Only a super-rich man with literal power over the concept of time can save us through his brilliant vision and supreme individualist brain power.

The movie was fun to watch, as it plays around with cinematography and over the top symbolism, Driver gives a bunch of absurd speeches about fate and love and dreaming as if vague optimism delivered in an angry tone consisting of incoherent drivel will somehow change human nature.

Then, it all just sort of works out... so yay, I guess?

This one gets a full 5 stars from me:

The time loop creates situation where there are main characters and NPC's who aren't in the loop and that has a game like feel to it, and there is both pain and fun associated with the lack of reality in that situation, which resonated with me who is a firm reality denier.

Even if we are in some kind of matrix, dream, multiverse, our actions would rhetorically matter to the bigger layers of the real world in that we are all governed by things like set theory which is so fundamentally true that it has to be true in the world outside the illusory one.
