the idea for this game is to make a platformer where the character's action dictated by item that you use on it.

how to play it :
there are multiple item that could makes the character to do a certain task. for example run item that could makes the player run forward. you could also combined two types of action to makes the character do both or resulted in a new behavior. for example the jump and run type if you combined both it will resulted in character jumping while moving forward.

please try it and give me feedback if you have any feedback
and follow me on twitter for info about my main project a game inspired by balinese myth.

Hello Smiley

I attempted to play your game, but unfortunately didn't get very far. After clicking the chest I received the colored orbs, sweet. I tried dragging these orbs around or placing them on the character, but nothing appeared to be doing anything so I stopped. Not sure if this is a bug or user error.

I think maybe some more instructions on how to play the game would be good, and maybe an easy starting level to show people how to get started.

Good luck!  Gomez

i added new update to moderatus a puzzle rogulike game where the character controlled by item.

the update was came from feedback that i received regarding this game.

i added new easier level as the previous one is too complex for people that know nothing about the game
i changed the drag mechanic as it looks like it's quite inconsistent whenever you tried to put the action or modifier

link to the game : https://azuaq.itch.io/moderatus

i don't frequently open this site so if you could please leave feedback on the itch page as i frequently checked it compared to this site thank you!

While graphically, the game has a nice style to it, there's a lot of work needed for the gameplay to work.

I played on itch.io through the browser, and there's a few things I'll comment on:
  • When starting the game, clicking the chest just dumps a bunch of orbs into the inventory without much room for explaination
  • The camera POV is zoomed way too far in, making it unclear what's going on. You need some kind of dynamic camera system so the player is always visible
  • Not enough feedback when reaching the end of a level. You need some sounds, some effects, some text, etc

You've got a very unique idea here and it's going to require a tutorial to get players on board. As it stands right now, I wasn't able to get into the game at all. Try introducing the orbs one at a time, guiding the experience so by the end a player can understand how to play.

did you press the ball info? i added the usage information for each orb inside it. the reason why i don't bring the player to go through the orb one by one is because the player will have different set of orb for each of their run so i think giving them a sheet that explained all of them is better.

regarding the camera did you mean zoom mechanic or something?

but thanks for your feedback!

The game might be enjoyable, but its deviation from traditional platformer mechanics made it challenging for me to concentrate and comprehend the manual. An intuitive tutorial is crucial for such games, yet I found myself struggling to access basic instructions through a tiny button. Furthermore, the instructions provided were perplexing and excessively lengthy.

This appears interesting, and I would like to engage with it more, but now, it is too confusing.
