Welcome to Mystopia!

Mystopia is an upcoming cozy sandbox game, inspired by witchcraft from different cultures.
There are no goals, no stress - grab your favorite drink, design and chill.

Play the Demo on Steam!

ABOUT THE GAME

Open the letters that appear in your world to discover blocks.
These blocks can be anything: a ground, a plant, a magic hat, an octopus leg or more!
There are many different types of blocks to explore.

Design your world the way you want.
There is no wrong way. Take a screenshot of your world anytime and share it with just one click.
Mystopia never ends; each world is a unique experience that always feels cozy.

Use potions to make your world more unique.
Mix items you discover in your world in the cauldron to craft potions.
Each potion does something different - find them all!

Features
  • Over 300 blocks across 7 different cultures, each with its own soundtrack and gameplay mechanics
  • Craft and use potions, each with its own unique recipes and effects like miniaturazing blocks or changing time
  • Ability to customize the game music using musical instruments
  • Place two or more compatible blocks, like fences or walls, next to each other to merge them
  • Build railways using straight and curved tracks, then make the train ride them
  • Take screenshots of your world anytime with a variety of effects and no camera view lock
  • Play the creative mode as a secondary game mode, giving you full freedom to build and explore

What are we going to do next?
There are currently three cultures in the demo. We're working on new assets and gameplay mechanics and plan to release the Oceania culture this month, including water blocks, bridges and a new gameplay mechanic. I've been stressing the need for bridges to the team lately, and I'm just now realising how challenging it will be to code a simple sustainable bridge system to connect blocks in a sandbox game. I'll be posting a technical devlog on how I handled this system soon.

What will devlogs be like?
Mystopia's still in active development and with every update we change the game mechanics and update our art. I'll post a devlog each time we do a major art change or an update, and most of those will be technical and detailed - I love writing!

What happened so far?
We launched our Steam page three months ago - we were still changing a lot of things, so we wanted to do a *soft launch* where we only shared it with friends and on our new Twitter page - but in the middle of all that, a Twitter page called Indie Freaks Japan saw our game and tweeted about it - resulting in us getting 500 wishlists on our launch day! We then accelerated the work on the demo, more press sites like 4Gamers shared it, and we participated in the Back to School Games Celebration on Steam, which just ended yesterday. We recently updated our trailer, screenshots and gifs - and now we're here.

About the Developers
I’m Ibrahim, and I’ve been programming games in Unity for five years. This is my first commercial game, and I love working on it. I’ve assembled a team of five: a game designer, two artists, and an audio engineer, all friends of mine - who share a love for cozy games. We’re a highly compatible team, and I look forward to working with them on future projects.

Major Graphical Overhaul
We've recently done a major graphical overhaul - changing the way the assets look, how the lighting works and so on. We also needed to update the Steam page, so we made a new trailer, created new gifs. The game looked... pretty dark before - then one of our artists picked it up, changed a lot of things overnight, uploaded it to github, and the results are in:

First gif is the OLD gif, second one is the NEW.

Mystopia felt so cold back then.

In addition to the art, we also changed the block spawn animation.
I'm also planning to change the letter opening animation soon.

For the designing worlds part, we wanted something that was both cozy and energetic - so we decided to use a world from our newest trailer.

The old gif was just a demonstration of how to move blocks to do designs.

The new one suggests that moving blocks to specific locations can
make them interact with each other, providing more game feel.

For the potions, we went with the background changing potion back then - and we didn't show how to craft potions. The new one shows a ~cooler~ potion, with the potion crafting mechanic.

Showing only one block instead of world was NOT a good idea.

We haven't updated our potion animations since - but it's on our roadmap.
