Trailer set to "Panama" by Van Halen, scenes often have resolution mismatch between the game and the foreground. Green screen lighting is visible on foreground characters.

As bad as this movie will (probably) be, it's pretty cool that it all began on the TIGSource forums, right here.  Blink

Yes and no: the dream is to actually get to make something you want to make AND have it reach people. I doubt that Notch is beaming with pride at this movie. And maybe he would have made a movie that stinks if he were in charge? Who knows.

Article about Game of Thrones stinking now because they changed it from the George RR Martin's vision.

Or George Lucas and his "Disney is white slavers" comments.

It seems that a lot of the Hollywood-ification of IP leads to decisions that the original authors despise. I would hope that Notch is sipping margheritas in his candy room and laughing about how they made such a stinker, but he got his check anyway.

BUT... If you told me that they were making a Matchyverse movie that had super famous actors in it and so on, but it was a movie that looked horrible to watch for me, I can't call that a victory. I could use a big check, I'm gonna be very honest with you, but the reason I created my independent vision for what a video game universe should be wasn't about the money. I wanted to create something true to what makes me happy to experience as the audience.

If you sell out, I have nothing but respect for the people who got their check, but then when they take your baby and make something that is garbage, by some studio executive nobody who won't have a job in 3 years, it is at best a bittersweet win.

I mean my dream of dreams would be to sell some IP and actually get to watch/play the game/show and enjoy it every week knowing that I'm getting more checks as the IP gets more popular.

For example, Mel Brooks wrote the pilot of "Get Smart" and the first 2-3 episodes and was credited as an executive producer for the whole series and got paid for as long as the series ran. I think he still gets money from that show till this day?

Anyway, I want that deal. A lump sum is nice, but I'm looking to have my hand on the wheel in some form.

I'd probably end up selling my whole company for a steak dinner and a swift kick in the nuts when it comes down to it.

I've been told by a lot of "experts" that to make a hit you have to do market research about games that people want but there isn't much competition from other games of that type. Usually, the people who are talking about this mechanical approach to design are not known to be hit makers. But if I am using a spreadsheet to decide what game to make... why do I (an artist) need to be involved in any way?

The Beatles are bigger than Jesus, Jack Black is a mega star, it's got a colorful diverse cast, it checks all the boxes... why do we need some demanding artist to say, "you realize that trailer is crap, right?"

"Still, they come to haunt me, still they want their say, so I learned to dance with my hands in my pants, and I rub my neck, and I write 'em a check, and they go their merry way."

Based on IP value alone, I expect that it will do quite well in theatres, questionable artistic decisions notwithstanding.
