We’re Hiring: 2D Pixel Artist for Onebit Studio

About the Project:
Join us in crafting a dark fantasy game inspired by Fear and Hunger and classic turn-based RPGs like Undertale and Final Fantasy. The gameplay is nearly finalized, and our goal is to deliver a polished experience or launch a Kickstarter campaign to bring the game to its full potential. A Game Design Document (GDD) will be provided to applicants for review.

Quote
THE GAME IS MEANT ONLY FOR MATURE AUDIENCES!
Extreme violence and gore are everyday sights in the dungeons and death is one of the easier ways to go in the game. The game has drug and substance abuse, heavy themes ranging from self-mutilation to sexual violence. None of the themes are taken lightly however. They are all part of the world building and there to create the unique atmosphere where the game measures just how far the player is willing to go in order to survive.

Role Responsibilities:
As our 2D Pixel Artist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity of our game. Your responsibilities include:

  • Creating 2D character designs and animations for protagonists, enemies, and NPCs.
  • Designing and illustrating atmospheric environments, including mountains, ruins, and other dark-fantasy-inspired locations.
  • Producing UI/UX assets that align with the game’s aesthetic and theme.
  • Collaborating closely with the development team to integrate art seamlessly with gameplay mechanics.
  • Ensuring all visual assets are optimized for performance across multiple platforms.
  • Working alongside sound designers and other artists to maintain a cohesive visual and auditory tone.
  • Contributing ideas and suggestions to enhance the game’s overall art direction.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Proven experience as a 2D artist in game development (portfolio required).
  • Proficiency in digital art tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar software).
  • Expertise in character and environment design, with the ability to convey storytelling through visuals.
  • Knowledge of tile-based art for level design.
  • Knowledge of 2D animation techniques, including sprite-based or frame-by-frame animation.
  • Experience optimizing art assets for game development.
  • Familiarity with dark fantasy, or horror art styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Bonus Skills (Preferred but not required):

  • Experience with Unity or other game engines for asset integration.
  • Ability to create concept art, mood boards, and storyboards.
  • Prior experience on indie games or small team projects.

Our Team and Work Culture:
We’re a small, passionate indie team dedicated to creating unique, story-driven games. Our fully remote setup offers flexibility, allowing team members to maintain a healthy work-life balance while contributing their creative best.

Why Join Us?

  • Contribute to an exciting indie game with a distinctive dark fantasy aesthetic.
  • Enjoy a flexible, remote work environment with creative freedom.
  • Participate in a profit-sharing model, with paid opportunities once Kickstarter funding is secured.
  • Be part of a motivated, collaborative team that values artistic input and innovation.
