Been a looong time, since I've been around these parts o the intranets. These forums were my main stomping grounds in college, but as the years went by I spent less and less time here, and then just altogether didn't. Itch.io has kind of filled the indie gaming void for me in the intervening years, but not the social aspect and I got to thinking about TIGS again.

So, I've been away for a few years...eh, maybe closer to a decade (edit: oof, it's been 11 years. Time sure flies. Damn), I'll have to check my post history. Anything interesting or crazy happened since I've been away. Derek, Alec, Phil and the early crew still around? It's been so long there's a few I'm forgetting but I'm sure my memory will jog if I see them around.

Any new developments? I see the main TIGS page is long dormant for the past few years...

Derek is busy with life, so he doesn't hang out here much anymore, and neither does Phil. Activity on here has died down in recent years in favor of the social media indie dev community growing, but there are still some of us left who are stubborn enough to keep posting.

Alec, sadly, has passed away years ago by now. It was a suicide brought on by accusations/allegations of abuse (which fwiw, were credible) and it seems like either the guilt or the backlash (possibly both) it took its toll in the end. Sorry for the bearer of such rotten news.

Ah, yeah I kind of figured that Derek probably didn't. Oof, Alec, damn. That's crazy. Of course, you never know who people really are, especially just interacting with them online, but wow.

I've never had an experience much like I had here on TIGS anywhere else. It was quite a different time. It's quite...strange to see it now, in contrast to how vibrant it was back then. I'm glad that there are still folks here though keeping the community alive in some way though. Poignant.

Also Phil is completely retired from gamedev as far as I know. Derek is still making games, and pretty successfully too.

But yeah, this place is kind of dead unfortunately. Still, welcome back.
