Hello, I'm new here. Anyways, I was helping a friend of mine with his website layouts and I had made a few quick examples to explain to him how he could leverage color depth to emphasize specific portions of his pages. These concepts also apply to almost any form of graphic art so I figured maybe some of you could make use of them as well:

Color Creating Depth:

Manipulating the Color Picker:

I will update this post sometime in the new future with a full blown color tutorial, but for now I hope this helps.

Yeah, I just spotted that earlier today. The stuff above was something I whipped up in 2 minutes to explain to a friend about utilizing color for depth, particularly when it comes to GUI or web page layouts. It wasn't meant to be an actual tutorial, I just figured someone here might glean something from it.

I like this!
I lack any artistic skill whatsoever, but I like making UI's for my programs anyway. Just yesterday I was messing around with mixing colours in 'Color Schemer' and some of my basic UI designs, but I still find it kinda hard figuring out a nice minimalistic palette to use.

As nice as it is, I think Arne has already explained this more thoroughgly before.

This is cool, good lesson for newbs (like me) is to experiment with colours, it can be easy to darken or dull shades in unattractive ways.
