First, I know the whole gentlemen thing is way over used, but I don't really care I came up with this idea last night, and am now somewhat excited about making it. Hopefully I'll be excited enough to work on it more then an hour. Gentlemen in the sky (working title) is about a wonderful palace that flies in the sky. This giant castle is built by a random, rich, group of gentlemen. It took them 34 years to make, but it's finally done, and they're about to move in. You play as a not-so-rich gentleman who becomes enraged/jealous that there are people rich enough to build a floating home. So enraged in fact, that you decide to fly up in your cheap hot air balloon and send the castle crashing to the ground. That's basically the story. Gameplay-wise, the game will be a small platform exploration/adventure game, where you can collect a few different types of weapons and have to fight your way/dodge your way/run-crazy-like through different hazards and robots to get to the engine room, and shut down the giant propellers that hold the castle up. ... Yeah. The game should take an hour to beat. I hope. I don't want to work on this game for more then a few hours, and therefore the game will be kept rather short. Not exactly sure how the graphics will work out, as I'm not all that much of a pixel artist (though I'm not outright horrible either). I'll have some more updates on that soon The game will be programmed in Game Maker, and if I feel I like it enough, then I'll rebuild it in Flash Develop (AS3). I'll have some gameplay screenshots up in the future. After I make the tilesets and player sprite, I guess. Cheers.

Pretty much what I think. Sounds awesome. Will it be more or less linear?

Thanks everyone Pretty much what I think. Sounds awesome. Will it be more or less linear? Pretty linear, yeah. Like I said, I don't want to spend a load of time on this game, and though I hope to add in things to make it less linear, it probably will be for the most part. Hoping I can work on it a bit tonight, so I may have some new screenshots shortly...

OK, small mockup. Well, it's not exactly a mockup, since it's in the game, just nothing works yet This is pretty much as far as my pixel art skills go. Well, maybe when I'm fully awake it's a bit better, but this is pretty much what the game will look like (except most of it will be played inside). featuring The Bird - pointless sidekickAny suggestions/constructive criticism is (greatly) appreciated.. I think the colours need work. That can wait 'till tomorrow.

Looks really good, you have a nice style going on and a good quirky humour.
The colours of the balloon are the only thing that stands out to me as odd, the don't contrast enough with the sky and look very flat because of it.

I like it, but in the text box it looks like a kiwi. In the frame it looks like a dinosaur

I don't know why I did this... But I felt this urge to pixel, so I did it. Anyways, this looks cool I like the storyline. Kind of reminds me of Laputa Castle in the Sky. Though I'm not sure I like the character you've got going atm he seems too... simple? Guess that could be part of the art style but I feel he's a bit blocky like his head is too big. And I agree on the dino comment, the bird doesn't look too bird like. Your color choices are a little rough, and also jpeg = bad. Good luck with this game.

Thanks. I'll mess around with the colours until I find something I think works a bit better. I'll also work on the bird sprite and image. I did those both really quickly I don't know why I did this... But I felt this urge to pixel, so I did it. Anyways, this looks cool I like the storyline. I saw Laputa Castle in the Sky once, a long time ago. It's kinda stuck ever since - I liked the idea a lot. This is probably somewhat inspired by that. Thanks for the feedback.

It wasn't a jpeg originally, I believe I made it a .png or .bmp Photobucket changed that around after I uploaded, I think. Got some new stuff here.. The animation needs a lot of work still, but it's coming along - I just suck at animating legs... Animation Cheers.

In that case I suggest not using Photobucket. Game looks great so far!

Don't tell me... The monocle... Fires lasers?! I was actually thinking that you would fling it at stuff, and then you'd quickly pull it back into your hands. Like a whip. Glad everyone likes it so far I may make a flash version of this. Not sure. it takes more time then Game Maker, but it would be kinda nice too

Love the premise, wish I'd thought of it Looks pretty good to me so far. I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunity for humor, too. The revised character sprite looks *perfect*.
