That there are two little green squares hovering above my post count and below my rank.

As the forum newb, it is my peragative to ask obvious questions that have probably been asked a billion times before, so...

What do these signify?

It represents your the amount of posts that you have made. The bigger the squares are the more posts (or higher level) you are.

If you attain level 777 on this forum you attain Godhood.

Something to keep in mind...

The squares are the individual tiles of a mosaic.  If you collect them all, they assemble into a nude picture of a prominent forum member.

Derek is the only person I can think of here who has green skin (* This was due to an accident with a glue gun and a potted hydrangea. See issue #4 of TIGS! - Ed), so I don't see who else it could be.
