Wow, I've really learned a lot from this thread
... I've never really delved into this sort of topic before, and I'm glad I have now.
Up until I read the article link in the OP I hadn't really thought about the whole gender targeted games thing. It raised a few questions in my mind and they have been answered.
For me making games has always been about making what I think would be fun and learning technology. So you could say I agree with Johny and Mr. Cake etc. to a certain degree... I'm still not 100% on my point of view, but that's why I suggested exploring the issue.
I know that I wouldn't want to see "pretty pink games" and "killer macho games" disappear altogether though... My niece loves to fantasise about being a princes or a fairy... I wouldn't want to take that away from her just because it was in the form of a computer game...
Meh... I've just said absolutely nothing to contribute really... sorry. It's late here. Maybe I'll have something more useful to say tomorrow.
