Stuff culled from other games/media that you'd like to see used more or expanded upon.

For me...

Archaelogy/clues as method of plot delivery. I really loved this aspect of Metroid Prime, especially when piecing together the Space Pirates' research timeline. No clumsy cutscenes or "archival video", just lots of scanning data files, old battlegrounds, ancient artifacts, and the like. Never takes you out of the action, allows for a lot of flavour to be added to what would otherwise be a straight FPS/adventure game, and draws the player into the creativity process (even if it's a simplistic "A then B then.. woah, that lead to C! That's cooooool.").

The ocean is a scary place, but there aren't many underwater games and none of them are particularly scary.

I got properly shit up the other day when I went down into the Abyss in Endless Ocean.

Excellent topic!

I'd like to see more "open" customization, like KH's Gummi Ship. I though that was a great idea, only a few billion kilometers out of its place.

I second the "Archeology/clues as a method of plot delivery".

Multiple ways of killing enemies. Like in Zelda, you can use your sword, or do a boomerang/bomb combo. Being able to switch up combat tactics is always fun. Also, extreme first person perspective storytelling like in Half-Life or The Darkness.

And more RPGs with solid as steel combat mechanics like ToP or KH2 with less anime cliche-ness running around.

Devil May Cry 3. You can fight with guns, with melee weapons, and you switch guns and weapons on the fly even mid-combo.

debug modes like crackdown's keys to the city or halo 3's forge.
LOVE that shit. so much fun. they were both more fun than the actual game.
everygme should have a "you get to just fuck around as much as you want" mode.

play > gameplay ?

Good, unique settings for non-RPGs.
I mean, fuck, when "ALIEN APOCALYPSE!" is the most unique thing there is those have got to be some interesting aliens, or it's gotta be a crap situation.

cant spell gameplay without amep, either.

the difference between play and gameplay is gameplay implies a game, which implies rules, wins and losses. playing around in the forge is like playing with legos. and you cant win at legos.

all im saying is sometimes i think that simpley playing, as opposed to playing a game, is more fun.

I think a good game needs both. A sandbox to play in, but some optional rules should you get bored of fucking around.

for sure.
but what im saying is that more games should also give me the option of really just fucking around. give me cheats and let me spawn shit everywhere, etc etc.
why the hell not.

Indeed, more sandbox modes. Lemme pile up cars and explode them to make a rocket to the moon.

Also, adding to that, I'd like to see beat'em ups that actually put just as much focus on defensive moves as in offensive moves. Usually you have a ton of different attacks to lay waste to enemies and a simple roll/block added to that. I want to do some crazy defensive stuff as well, like in coreographed battles.
