I'm thinking of making something like this: Really simple. So it can be finished in a couple of days, so please don't ask whacky features. The workflow goes like this: Download assets to a specific folder: <program folder>/assets/<ARTIST NAMES>/mahmusics.mp3 They are automatically loaded. Review the assets (like 1-5 stars something, missing in the screenshot) Add notes to asset. Add tags to use them later, like: all, level1, level5, monsters. First tag will be used as a subfolder in the destination folder when copying files. Execute file copying. The asset must have at least one tag to be copied. Optionally filter out file extensions (e.g. Flash devs will likely only allow .png and .mp3) The only think I would need from artist is that, if they export in multiple formats, they retain the exact same filename (to easily avoid showing duplicates) What do you think?

Sooo, I don't think I saw it clearly stated: If you participate in part 1 can you in part 2?

Certainly can. Highly encouraged.

Can I post code that generates art automatically / semi automatically, or should I post only it's results? Or maybe wait with this until part 2?

Question: Knowing that we cannot modify the asset but can convert if needed; is it alright to cut/paste a specific frame from a sprite sheet into its own file? My concern is loading multiple, large sprite sheets from multiple projects when I'm only going to be using a single frame or two.

Also with SFX/Music? can we chop it up? E.g. to get just a loop from a fixed-length song (remove the intro/outro).

It seems like Will Host for Food is down, and a lot of people in this compo used it to host their files. Is there any other hosting option for them?

I use MediaFire myself. It has good file managment and also lets you track the number of downloads if you want to know those kinds of things.

Getting a free web account with some dummy page on it and using it to store your files is a good choice and will save some time too. (ftp uploads are way faster)

I disagree. Most free hosting are not reliable, they will freeze your account if no real page is there (like putting a dummy page and using it for file storage) and specifically I had bad experiences uploading SWF files of more than 3MB to 000webhost: lots of disconnections and when they arrived ok, the SWF was actually corrupted (I downloaded it again and binary-compared them 3 or 4 times, and at different days. No, it wasn't a FTP-Client thing.)
Dropbox is the man.

I must agree that dropbox's direct access makes it a good thing to use.

I do like my dropboxy.
Also, WE HAVE 10 PAGES OF THREADS.
And it seems the vast majority has assets.
I've yet to check them all. How's the variety? What's still sorely lacking?

It would be cool to make..err suggest? everybody use a direct-download method or dropbox. That way Sos' script will work wonders and it's easier on everyone. It takes just a little bit of work from each artist and we profit all

A request on silhouettes: Can any who has made silhouette (and maybe also 1-bit assets) provide a version where the object is WHITE on a background rather than black. This gives the coders the option to tint the sprite/poly/whatever. If it's black it can't be coloured.
Obviously if the thing is supposed to be black (or dark coloured) then show it like that in your thread for preview purposes.
I guess that it's not really against the spirit of the compo to recolour stuff white and re-save it if necessary, just like converting magic pink to transparent. Is it...?

I think its fine. They never answered about getting a section of a graphic/audio though Yeah, that should be settled, I think not being able to chop things up and/or convert them to different formats will not make things "more fair". Hence, I suggest: 1. We shoud be permitted to chop up and/or convert graphics / music, without adding a single pixel to that of course. 2. Changing background of some sprites from anything to magic pink should be allowed too There are as many graphic formats and spritesheet layouts as participants so far, and not being able to do that will only result is writing 5 different functions to animate 5 sprites, and making things harder will make programmers focus on scratching their heads, swearing and eventually using as little assets as possible instead of making some greatest games EVAR.
