Greyscale Trouble Ok. So I'm back with a few updates. So here's a low down of whats happened so far: Game Idea:I want to make a very small game. It must be playable, it must also be hard. This game will be a platformer. It will have very few colour and stay under 16 colours(not including splash screens etc. I will try to keep the style and colours as minimalistic as possible to conserve time. Here's a small mockup of whats to come: So in this mock_up you can see the character in full colour lol, there are point thingies to collect around the stage and you can even see the next level in the background. Oh and watch out for spikes!. Day1-- I created a few tiles for my tile set.
- I started programing.
- Implemented collision sytem.
- Implemented Movement system.
- Spikes now Kill.
- Character restarts room after death.
- Implemented next room shown in background(basics)
- Started a run cycle for the character
. [/list] Day2-- I now have one annoying bug!
- Implemented a room transition system, nothing flashy though.
- created animation for points.
- AHE! made first 2 levels.
- I've just added a little something to the tileset.
- Level 3 done!!!!!
- Fixed movent bug.
- Implemented gravity to complement the game!(happy about this one).
- Fixed error where the character spawns a new buddy every level.
Day2-- Created 2 NEW levels which are slightly harder
- I've just tweaked the movement and collision system so that now I have to press Jump at the exact right time
- Added a few things earlier on to the tile set.
- I've incorporated switches into the game to make it more interesting
I got bored so I made a level that looks like a head/face. Day3/Debug day!-- Fixed loads of errors
- Implemented a few things all around the game
Day4-- I made a really hard level, and its just getting on my fecking nervs, so I guess the games working.
- Fixed a small error
- Made a quick title screen and used a timeline to do it!
- I've designed a few levels, but mostly talking to bro about what I should do and what I shouldn't do.
- Added a few more objects etc(should be good).
k so this has taken me a while to post, but I feel confident that I'll finish this as there are only 3 levels left to make. But right now I need a favour and I'm looking for 5 or so people to test this as a beta? P.S. I have no music for this, so if any you guys could push in the right direction that would be cool. P.S. Everything is subject to change. Ok, so the game in a week thing didn't work out to well. My bad. But I'm happy to say I've made a few updates. Made it a bit easier and I'm going to let you guys tell me what I should do to improve it. There are a few bugs...Very noticeable.lol, I will fix them soon:P LINK: http://www.filefactory.com/file/a10a563/n/Greyscale_Trouble.exe

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'll send those files to you in .zip format if thats fine with you. Sent PM's to both of you. Edit: lol, you won't be able to get past level 7....by bad. I forgot to turn the switch on. But hey, level 8 is fecking stupidly hard. Day5- -Started level 9 -Made a font for messages I haven't put in game (Thinking of doing this in two ways. I'll decide which one looks better later).

The game was sweet! Not any major game breaking glitches, but a few problems: - You left the save/load gamemaker keys enabled!
- The fan things on the walls made no sense. They seemed to cause low gravity, but the gravity changes weren't always lined up with the fans.
- This game has a bit of a bumpy difficulty curve. the first laser level was a lot easier than the hard jumping one before it.
Made to the last level though! (or the switch that doesn't work at least)

Made to the last level though! (or the switch that doesn't work at least) Uhhhh I really need to explain the fans . Which I will add today, but the save and load keys will be destroyed, I just totally forgot about gamemakers built in functions. Also good on you for finishing that last level, Solarblade said it was a bit hard and both of you are saying that the level before it was easier. I'll try my best to fix it. Dom2D Sure, I'll send you a PM within the minute or two. PM sent. I'll soon have a version up for all to play.

Day6-- So I fixed up the font and now have it up and running according to ASCII
- I now have a message system that requires very little work
- Level 8 is done and works fine, It was stupidly hard, so I toned it down a bit.
- Level 9 is under way, I'm trying to find something to introduce in this level
- The points sprite is now different as people have bugged me to make it something that means value
Level two, A message "BEWARE THE SPIKES" I'll update todays progress by editing this post, that way its more convenient.

I like the style. I'm willing to test it, if you're still looking for people.

The game plays great except one thing: the three-tile long jump. The engine is not efficient enough to time the jumps perfectly enough to get to three tiles away every time, no matter how careful you are. On high-end machines maybe, but on low-end machines I believe it'll be frustrating.
Other than that I enjoyed it a lot, it's cool to see the next level in the background.

I have a high end machine and still have trouble with the 3 tile jump. Thats the main reason the level before the lasers was so hard compared to the levels afterwards.

I didn't work on this yesterday , but I have my reasons. One, I had to get into my athletics clubs national crosscountry relay team and my grand mother from South africa is in the country. But what I have done is changed the length of the jumps to make the three tile jump a bit more easier. I will however note that I have a low end computer and from what I've heard there isn't much of a difference on low or high end computers. For those who want to still try the day 5 version then: I'll be uploading a newer version by the end of the day. My only problem is that my internet speeds are extremely slow, so this takes time. other than that, if you have ideas of what I can add then please speak up, I love hearing from you guys.
