The Browser

Back buttons on the main menu switch between sound and art.
Up/down arrows resize art.

Submit things here!

Original Post(s):

To submit an image I need:
*thread to find the image in
-image url
-tags for the image
-image needs to be in a format Flash can load (I know jpg's work for sure)

To submit sound I need:
*thread to find the sound in
*a direct link to the sound in mp3 format (if you can't provide this, I will replace the link to your thread with a link to the sound in whatever format you're using, unless you specifically request otherwise)
-tags for the sound
-a name for the sound

-required
*preferred, but not required

--------------------------------------------

Let's face it, thumbing through threads in search of a specific something is amazingly annoying. (alliteration! yay!)
I bring to thee, The Unofficial Assemblee Art/Music Browser! so that YOU don't have to go through all those threads yourself. It's currently full of placeholder art.
You can click on images to go straight to the image, and you can use the up/down arrows to resize the image. There may be a few glitches since I threw this together in a day, so please let me know of any problems.
But I need your help to make this work!
If you've made art for the competition and you want it included in this, all you need to do is post a little bit of info about it in this thread and I'll add it to the browser.
Things you need to tell me for this to happen and other useful info:
-your image url
-where to find more of these images (ie: your thread with all your stuff)
-any tags you want for your image (pixel, background, author, etc)
Flash can only handle loading in certain image formats. I don't know what those are, so you might need to do a bit of googling. I know that jpg's work for sure.
Obviously, if you're doing 3D stuff, I can't load your 3D image into flash. You'll have to give me a preview image to load into this.
The same is true for music. Give me some kind of image I can load into Flash and we're cool.
I'll be adding all this in by hand, so I'll make a post in here every time I've added something. If I don't include your stuff in the post, I might have missed it.
Hope this can help some people out!

Really nice idea. I was thinking about compiling everything in a zip file near the end of the competition, organized by music, sprites, backgrounds, etc, but this is fancier My Word!

Also how does the image loading work? , does it stream images or are images embedded in the flash file itself?

Anyway , got to go now Yawn , but keep up the good work.

Isn't it possible to play mp3s through flash?

Added your stuff, Strom. The images are streamed.

@easyname - Yes, you can load mp3's into Flash, but I'm not sure that all the music/fx are in mp3 format? I'd love to make it possible to load in music previews as well, and I might come back to it once I get some free time.

Working on getting a separate system for sound. Once that's done I'll add your stuff.

I think you need some sort of automated system for submissions

i second that, for your own good. but really nice idea, this compo just keeps getting better and better. how about a thread right here on the forum where everyone can post 2 or 3 of his pics? would be pretty easy, too, wouldn't it?

An automated system would be great, but I have no idea how to make that work.

Hmm... I suppose I could make an app that would prompt people for the required info, format it, and then email it to me, reducing my job to just copy/paste/moderate.

Still, that's not completely automated. If anyone knows how to make this, I'd love to hear it.

If you could find the time that would be great. Smiley PM me for any info you'll need.

Also, updated the browser. Now music and art are separate, and music browses a little bit differently. You can stream music into the flash player, but it's not that great.

Added Craig's and Take One's stuff.

Take One, I had to take my best guess at what tags went to which songs, as my browser wouldn't play them and I didn't feel like downloading.

Craig, since you didn't include tags with yours I added some of my own invention. If you want to tag your own music I can always edit.

Also, the browser's sound section has exploded with text My Word!

It actually does scroll if you move the cursor down to the bottom. I should put an arrow there.

Submitting my tune... I'll make some more tunes, but this one is all I've got for now.  Smiley Hand Thumbs Up Right

The tune can be found in this thread... plus all extras. The tune is in MP3 format so you can easily put it in your Flash Browser.  Wink
