Update: It is finished! Here is the relevant post.

Transdimensional Hellspider is a space shooting game thing that I can best describe as Spacewar! vs Warning Forever. It's like Spacewar! in that there is inertia and thrust (and the enemy has a basic physics model hacked together out of dim recollections of year 12 physics), and like WF in that, well, WF really owns the idea of a boss which keeps on evolving based on how you kill it. It's written in C and uses Allegro.

Here are a couple of screenshots:

As you can probably see, the viewpoint is fixed forwards and the world rotates around you, which was a bit hard to get right but seems to work well despite requiring thousands of arctangent operations each frame.

The game is fairly close to done. The gameplay is there, although it needs balancing and sound. I hate doing sound, it is something I always leave for last.

Further updates as progress continues!

I like the fact that you do more than just rotate the background - it looks like you're also drawing a line between oldStarPosition and currentStarPosition.  I like the effect it gives your background!

Looking cool!

Well, I have to apologise for my total failure to update this devlog, but the game is finished. That's right! Here's the shmup-dev.com forum post and here's a sourceforge page with a Windows binary to download and C source if you'd like to try compiling it yourself (requires Allegro).

Let me know what you think!

Looks pretty cool! Also, always nice to see projects done in Allegro.

I'll try it out this afternoon.

good game, not easy to avoid all that gunfire and attack at the same time Screamy
The increasing difficulty is realy intersting.

What does the 2nd bar on the left indicate?
And it seems like whatever gun i choose to start with, I get the same basic gun. Beeing 2 blasters pointing straight forward with a average to little range.
Also, I couldn't use the 2nd fire button, it just did nothing.

Okay,
I've played hellspider again! And this time i found the answer I was looking for in my previous post. It was pritty obvious but somehow I missed it all.

I was just hitting the 2nd fire button, not leaving it the time to load up to a 'minimum' charge, thus nothing hapened. Maybe it should've been explained somewhere.

nice game though!
