Finished zip uploaded.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C05KH2YE

Loads in there that isn't down below. Big textures. Colour. Faces.
Have fun!

And let me know if the link works!

Well I've cut out everything of worth on these "sprite sheets":

They'll be in a nice big PNG zip file when the compo is just about to finish.

Here's a try out of an explosion, animated:

And here are the other guys, now thru imageshack:

Spiky guy

Lumpy

And he goes stompy!

On blocks?

Up ramps!

Annoyingly what takes up most of my time is trying to get these things watchable online. So you won't see much more than stills from now on. They will all wobble!

Original Post

Just wanted to see whether I could animate with just office paper, a thick pen and a scanner. Hand Thumbs Up Right

Unfortunately I'm having GIF trouble. So this higher quality one is coming out far too fast (at least on my browser). But download it and you'll find he moves at the right speed.

GIF Trouble finished thanks to this article: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Simple_Animations/

If encouraged-I'm hoping to draw/scan in:
-Pen and Eraser pictures
-More cute guys
-Blocks of coloured pencil
-More Pencilly backgrounds
-Sticky tape of various sorts

Anyone reckon they can use these?

They actually want to keep everything from a contributor in the same thread, so you should move these into your other one. Wink

Otherwise: good! Between these and Healy's works there should be quite a few things available for a "drawn on paper" look, which there just isn't enough of in the gamin' world. =)

Anyone made properly working GIFs on GIMP?
Alas, I have been having trouble making animated GIFs in GIMP myself...  Doesn't seem to save, some dll fails to respond...

The first animate gif is cute.  The second one goes a little too quickly for my likes, a bit to much shaking frame to frame.

More Pencilly backgrounds
Yes please, that would be great!

EDIT: corrected a grammatical mistake

Yeah, it's meant to animate as fast as the one above it. Strangely, if you actually download it and run it from your desktop, or even use...gah...Internet Explorer, it animates at right speed.

Second one was made with GIMP. First with Microsoft GIF Maker.

Oh, I see.  Looks much smoother viewing the GIF in another viewer.
Nice work AdamButher.  I like pencil drawings and the idea of using them in games is quite appealing to me.

Well I've made just enough assets for a rudimentary game now?

Let me know about resolutions! I'm thinking I'm wasting my bandwith on such big guys.
And alpha: can one do alpha with JPegs?- Like Magic Pink alpha?

Personally i prefer the PNG-format for everything. Lossless compression, separate alpha channel and properly sized palettes.

With jpgs you get all kinds of problems.

If you use magic pink, you have to use that exact colour. But if you're unlucky, the jpg compressor will create artefacts in the pink areas.

You also only get one transparent colour, so you won't be able to have any anti-aliasing on your lines (they will probably be jagged).

Additionally, as a programmer, I prefer real transparency over magic pink every day. But that may be a matter of taste and depend on how you make your games.

"Real transparency" you say?
I'm tempted to distribute everything as .Psd and .Xcf (GIMP) formats with layers for each frame of animation. I think that's a decent compromise, and then I can put in alpha as well.

Putting everything in a psd/xcf can be good, if you have parts that can be put together in different ways. If you just have a number of static images, it will be easier for the end user to have them saved out. If you use png, you will lose no information and it will be really easy to use. If you use Photoshop, just go to File > Save for Web & Devices to get full control Smiley

Hey, that's look a lot like my Blackboard drawing Smiley

If you could make white version of your outlines and I make mine black they may be used together. What do you think?

Mine are here: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=9296.0

Oh, I aslmost forgot to pint out that your sprites are awesomely cute =]

Just to let people know that most things are cut out and ready. And I've got some new backdrops and stuff to upload soon.

I'm not providing loads of assets here, but a bit of imagination, in game flipping and rotation, could definitely make a happy simple game.
