The sad thing is that for every post about the (seemingly) random behaviour in this thread, the makers of the game win even more...

well I tried that several times but the water still kills me. this shouldn't even be problem. 0 stars.
It's not a problem for the fifth time. I'm not sure why you guys find it so hard to understand that the game was purposefully programmed to screw with you.

That's more like it. In other news, I found a new effect: -checkpoints don't work
That one is pretty mean!

gave up on the "long and winding journey" area, pissing hard to only press left just enough to just get past the right most ghost thing on the way down, crossing the top and bottom sections are fairly easy.
if the whole game was just slowed down just to the point that you can actually get reliable movement distances then it would be a lot easier.
also people who can't make the first jump are wimps, I didn't make it the first time because I anticipated, don't anticipate! just jump right at the last moment.
EDIT: after watching that youtube video I'm gonna have to say that there are framerate issues, or maybe intentional random speed values are set at the beginning, because the bats moved at a reasonable speed for me but the ghost things went about a billion miles per hour.
Edit2: whoa, changing compatibility mode does change the speed of the game, windows 95 and the bats and stuff move about the speed shown in the vid.

If all of this intentional, this game is pure genius. Not only does it fuck with you, it's also surprisingly fun taken "at face value".

When you run the game from a new location, it unpacks itself anew. It's a temporary folder that can be found in local settings. Just look for mrt32.tmp when the game is running. So if you're having problems, just move the game somewhere else. It will unpack the files once more and will most likely cause new behaviour.
yes but no thanks

Yup, sorry, another brilliant little kick in the pants from our good friends. It took me a moment to get the jumping right and then I was gravy all along. Sure, some bits took a bit longer but I never got frustrated. A little bite of challenge with my lunch. Bravo, gents.

only took me a few minutes, not as difficult as people are making out.
The key is to play while people are making out? Got it. THIS IS EXACTLY CORRECT. BONERS HELP WHEN PLAYING THIS GAME.

Actually looking through people's experiences again, I think there might be a case where you jump just slightly lower, making the one spike room hard but still making the first jump possible.

The best thing is, I want to experience those glitches, but the game has been running fine for me since the second I started playing it. Changing the compatibility mode doesn't affect it at all. Everything works fine and fast, I have no problems with long jumps, etc.
If the developers won't comment on it, I hope that someone else figures out how to adjust the game and / or cause those various side-effects.
this has also been my experience, i never got any bugs, no matter what i tried. although perhaps the 'review copy' he sent me was bug-free, so that the review wouldn't mention the bugs? oh well if that's the case then, 0 stars.
i'm sure cactus and podunkian care about "stars" It's hilarious that you guys are pissed and/or attacking each other.
what, you're the one who got the most angry at the game, calling it a massive troll earlier etc., before you suddenly switched to 'brilliant'

Yeah I'm beginning to suspect that all the pages of this thread arguing that the game is impossible because of bugs is more fiction than fact.

my thoughts on the game, quoted from the frontpage yourname said 1 day later: this game sucks, cactus, you should take a look at those youtube videos where you tell people how to make games without sucking
Paul Eres said 1 day later: what. who else could make a game in 48 hours that gets on the frontpage of tigsource, timw’s indiegames blog, and WIRED of all places? and gets more comments in those blogs and in the forums than games that have been worked on for years, like au sable? people will probably remember this game for years, and remember the tricks it used (if in fact the conspiracy theory is true). not to mention all the tigsource frontpage trolls it peeved off (its greatest accomplishment). for 2 days that’s pretty good, i’ve nothing but admiration for it.

what, you're the one who got the most angry at the game, calling it a massive troll earlier etc., before you suddenly switched to 'brilliant' Your assumption that I dislike trolls is incorrect, c.f. my previous posts on this very forum. EDIT: Perhaps you parsed my adamant assertion that it was a troll as anger; this was not my intention.
