-a crayon physics doodle-stage -one of those lush hand painted landscapes from Braid -a super minimalist 2-tone N level
muisic: something ive done, and that mark johns is about to do too, and that tons of other have also done, is approach some awesome chiptune musician you like and just ask. seems people who make music from videogame hardware are into writing music for games! and i think the usually upbeat and bubbly beats of chiptune would work great for a brawler.

:D Hehe, my votes go to fish on the chiptune suggestion as I'm hardcore into it too! Though, I don't know any game chiptune musicians (just the 8-bit people.)

Stages: HELL (Cave Story) crayon PHYSICS! Dwarf Fortress (FIRST FIGHTING GAEM LEVEL IN ASCII :D) Music: I suggest and vote modules. Chiptunes are great, but I don't think we should limit ourselves to chips. It's kinda venturing into the filetype of the music, though. I mean, we could just do chiptunes with modules. Or something.

Secret Stage: Match-3 in HELL. Similarly themed squares are being switched and matched up and destroyed around you as you try and pummel Quote in to the ground with your Doomerang. But no! The platform underneath him is aligned with two other skulls and he drops below to pick up the BANHammer. Only a Tigersauce pickup could save you now...but there's two flame blocks cutting you off, why isn't this AI any good!?!? There's CLEARLY another flame block just inches away waiting to be flipped!
Apart from that... all your suggestions are excellent.

Well, I vote for my own suggestions again. Especifically: Path defender; Outer Wall and The Core (from Cave Story); and Floating Island (from Fez). It's obvious that if the game's to be made not ALL the most wanted suggestions will be made, as some will probably demand a bit too much from the coders. As for music, Cave Story and Aquaria tunes, maybe one from Immortal Defence. I can't really name specific ones. By the way, it's three stage and three music votes, right?

A setting from Knytt? Just have loads of random creatures walking around and peering at stuff.
As for music... I dunno. I would like some cheesy 8bit techno stuff.

(as I was inspired during my other character post)
An Eets level. With cannons and flying sharks and things. Very entertaining.

Stages: Desert Worm Desert TIGERSauce Production Line Asia from Clean Asia
Music: Why can't we get tracks from Indy games? :D In that case, anything from Clean Asia. Otherwise, let the user choose a folder of music to play random tracks from.

The original music from the stage would be great...but remixed. Maybe we can aproach the folks over at overclocked remix (ocremix.org) and present the project? They wip out some killer stuff. Like this song from Cave Story for example http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01513/

some cave from Aquaria
How about the Sun Temple? A completely underwater stage might be a bit of a stretch for some characters to fight in, so this seems to be a good compromise. Plus, fighting on spinning gears would be great fun.

I think the Sun Temple, a bit of dry land in the veil, or the sunken city would all be good choices.

Yes! I was totally just going to post this. I would say a healthy dose of original chiptunes and remixes of the music from the games of the various characters included. Dwarf Fortress (FIRST FIGHTING GAEM LEVEL IN ASCII :D)
This would be really great. I don't quite know how it would be done though...

I would like a stage from each of the games of the main characters and bosses, once they are decided.
On top of that, I would like to see:
-Desert worm desert. -The Endless Forest. -An N stage.
For the music, a remixed track from each of games the stages are from (if we could get the original composers to do them themselves, or just give directional input, that would be awesome), plus some original music for menus etc.

Voting ends tomorrow, here are my votes for stuff. - The Land of Emo or Broken America from the emogame series.[rant]emogame I think is one of the best and virtually unknown action platform games out there. The characters are pretty stiff and the controls are highly questionable, but the game is also witty, ironic, funny and has some damn inventive gameplay moments, levels and minigames (one second you might be in Purevolume.com, fighting an unholy Linkin Park Metroid hybrid and it's iPod/Transformer minions, the next you're on American Idol watching Chun-Li beat the crap out of Simon, then you're in broken America, getting Pete and Pete (from the popular Nickelodeon show) to help you stop George Bush from using Voltron to destroy the middle-east. Despite the game starring emo characters, the storyline is hardly sympathetic to emos at all (insisting that all emo musicians have ovaries and that they'd rather drink and cry by themselves than save their best friends The Get-Up kids from being molested by the badguys.) If you give it a chance and really get into it you'll be rewarded with funny dialogue and lots of oddball 80s references.[/rant] - Rocket on the Roof from Nelly Cootalot. In my efforts to find more obscure indie games to be featured in Indie Brawl I remembered Nelly Cootalot. Essentially you'll have a ground-locked rocket and a couple of uptight old ladies guarding it. There can be multiple platforms with pipes and steel bars that occasionally fall off, break and change around the scenery. -DeFoe Manor from Chzo Mythos series If you have Trillby as a character you gotta have this place. Key locations would be the drawing room and the basement. Also outside the space ship (for the second game) or a darkside/lightside shifting hotel (for the last game.) Music: In retrospect it's probably based around the stages chosen. I'd be up for getting the original musicians to remix the tracks (maybe redo certain tracks as synth orchestra or something.)
