who here is a coder with an iPhone?
im getting one at GDC, and i want to make an iPhone game. infact, i want to make a multi-touch game. had this idea last night. super clean, super simple, tons of potential. you write it. i draw/design it.
you + me + 2 months and we've got an awesome little multi-touch game.

I think the official iPod touch/iPhone API is coming out next month. Might be worthwhile waiting until then, if you don't want to fiddle with the community's hand-hacked APIs and various illicit methods of security breaking.

I'm planning on getting an iPhone/iPod Touch sometime in February as well. SDL is already unofficially ported, and working in Cocoa/OpenGL ES 2 is pretty simple. There's a lot of polygon pushing power in that thing.

You stretch/squish the blue guy to manoeuvre him around the level?

you're good.
yup, you squash, stretch and rotate the little guy by using 2 fingers, like you would in the iphone picture viewer. you have to make it through the levels without touching the walls, which would hurt you, for some reason.
then, you also try to collect the little + by stretching all over. the little guy's exact center and pivot is always right in the middle, and the level scrolls at a constant speed.
you can put your 2 fingers anywhere on the screen, they dont have to touch the character. as long as they move in a cohesive fashion.
and then there's a couple of neat little level designey things.
and that's more or less it.

Wouldn't your fingers obscure your view of the game? Worse still, wouldn't they obscure the most important part of the game?
Sorry to be a pooper. I think the concept sounds great otherwise & the visuals are super happy fun.

nah, since you dont have to touch the character, your fingers can stay all around the screen and keep the middle clear.

Sounds like a neat idea. I love the visual style as well. The blue guy looks like he's straight out of the Junior Senior "Move your feet" music video, which is awesome.

A contracter is sending me an iPod Touch this week. I may or may not hack it and use the underground SDK before Apple's comes out.
There are a lot of fun resources for innovative games in the iPhone line -- Accelerometer, Camera, Touch Sensitivity, Microphone. As well, the machine has much more horsepower than a DS.
A lowpoly version of rotrix with accelerometer control could be fun. But I imagine it would be just as fun using two-touch manipulation in landscape orientation to control spinning and forward/reverse movement.
The camera is begging for use with
and the net connection.

the iphone is great but it think it'd be kinda too bad to make a game just for them, considering the ipod touch is basically the exact same hardware, sans microphone, camera or cellphone bits. the rest is the same. and considering the ipod touch is sold in far more territories than the iphone (like canada), it prolly already has a much bigger install base.
and it's what i have. so there.

I think they use the same OS, because the phone software works on the touch and vice versa. The official kit is supposed to support both machines. Wish i could justify buying a touch, although working with fish would probably pay for it several times over.
