..and the complication is I'm using Photoshop Elements 4.0, which apparently doesn't have scripting enabled. -.-

Does anyone have any suggestions? A standalone program that will eat a psd and dump the individual layers out is fine; OSX is preferred but win32 would be fine.

Can't you just make one layer visible at a time and then save them as PNG's as you go? How many layers do you have?

Guess who's stupid?

I am. =(

I tried that, and thought the filesize was way too big and it was saving the "invisible" layers also.

Double-checked that with a quick test and.. no, file size is just right.

Thanks. Grin

Maybe you'd like to take a look at ImageMagick. It's command-line based, but i think it's really easy to extract layers from a PSD to separate files. I think something like convert file.psd file.jpg will generate a file for each layer, like this : file-001.jpg, file-002.jpg etc.

No need for such Finesse. There are scripts under the Automation options, included in photoshop!
