Dear Readers,

Sir Realism just finished it's latest game: The LaCoGeSSta Research! =D

The LaCoGeSSta Research is a puzzle game about eating and being eaten. Solve every puzzle by having only 1 species left.

- 15 levels plus 5 tutorial levels.
- Ridiculous background comments.
- Randomly generated Levels from size 2×2 to 20×20 (see if you can solve THAT!)
- Never ending gameplay!

Screenies ^^

Play the LaCoGeSSta Research

I like this game; like a vamped up version of neko puzzle (has its own character, though).

Not being able to see the whole play area at once is a bit weird sometimes.

Kept on overshooting at the title menu because I was holding down the diagonal controls, heh.

the things that move in curves/radial motion seem very slow moving.  I don't know if this is intentional or not.

Still playing through..

First of all, thanks for playing dudes! =D

Thanks! ^^

You can see the whole level when you press shift.

It moves slowly, that's true, but it's not a game you really want to rush anyways XD

This is lovely. Interesting gameplay and excellent level design.

Some comments:

Rather than say the goal is to have only one "species" left, I would say "creature". As it is, it implies that you can win by having multiple living creatures, all of the same type.

I would prefer the default view to be the full-level view. I just switched to it every time I loaded a level, and it was annoying that every time I died it would go back to the zoomed-in view.

I really like the menu setup, but on the level select screen there's no way to get back to the main menu. Also it seems a bit weird to have to reset on a menu screen, but it's totally consistent.

Pressing escape rather than space when you complete a block of levels is a bit weird: I'd expect space to work.

I'd agree with increpare that the blue sin-wave creatures are a bit on the slow side. When redoing parts of a level up to where you went wrong, it can be a bit boring to have to wait for them to move.

Some of the level titles are a bit revealing. Although some of them I probably wouldn't have been able to do without the title, so nevermind.

When I completed level 10 it said the last 5 levels are "locked" rather than "unlocked"

The last level is probably too big. Once you've figured out the clue, it's not very rewarding but rather long.

But these are small issues. Really great job!

This game rocks. Have you thought about porting to iPhone / Android?

Nope, we haven't. But it's made with a stolen version of flash (am I aloud to say that?), so we can't really make any money on it through selling...

It would be cool though, I agree xD

Awesome, fun and original puzzle game.

The puzzles seem very complicated at first but you gradually realize that you only have a few "branches". I.e., I do a little bit of lookahead and see what my next few moves are, then I realize that in sequence my first choice is really at the purple snake, etc.

The shapes and colors are just perfect, I love it!

*** EDIT ***

Ok additional suggestions. The difficulty curve is probably too high for many players. What makes the game so satisfying however is being able to execute a long "inevitable" sequence (e.g., I know my bird has to go right here because it's on the left hand side of the map).

So my thinking is, to make satisfying puzzles that are easy, and also train the player to see the map in terms of choices they can make (rather than a confusing array of lines and curves), is:

- Early puzzles have maybe only 1 or 2 "choices" in them, total, but lots of medium-length sequences.

- Gradually, add more "choices" (defined by requiring more than a one-move lookahead) and shorter sequences.

- Eventually make choices require two-move lookaheads, etc.

- Make the patterns that you DO trace out through the sequences fun.

I guess the perfect example level of this kind would be the "SNAKES!" level, since you really have only a few choices in the entire level but very long and fun sequences. This ends up being a really fun level because you get to trace out such an interesting pattern. So... more levels like this please!
