Requesting criticism on my Health Pack

There's a workshop subforum where you can get feedback. But here's some comments:
- Colours are a little odd
- Values are not well distributed
- Outline should almost never be pure black
- It's just a box and looks like the front panel is just stuck on. How do I use this pack?
- There's lighting because you've shaded the cross, but the box isn't lit
- What material is this made of?

I addressed those points and repainted your medpack. It's still pretty generic but it's an improvement. Smiley

And here's another evolution of my skull, called "Terminal":

one thing kind of bugging me about the skull is that the right side implies that it's way deeper set than the left side is, but its a rad concept

Dayam that looks so much better.  Thanks.  I thought you could get criticism on this thread too, sorry.

EDIT: Amazing feedback btw, I appreciate it.  I actually thought you're supposed to outline everything with black.

You can't have the red cross, that's a trademark.

Quote
In order to ensure universal respect for the emblems, the Geneva Conventions obliged their signatories to forbid any other use of the names and emblems in wartime and peacetime.

Nevertheless, the misuse of the emblem is widespread and it is often used as a general symbol to indicate first aid, medical supplies and civilian medical services especially walk-in clinics. Misuses appear in movies (A notable example is The Living Daylights,[10][11] wherein narcotics were disguised as Red Cross care packages, as a plot device), on television, and in computer software and games. Service companies, such as those for car repair or lawn maintenance, tout themselves as service "doctors" and incorporate medical symbols to promote themselves

...

In 2006, the Canadian Red Cross issued a press release asking video game makers to stop using the red cross in their games; it is an especially common sight to see first aid kits and other items which restore the player character's health marked with a red cross.[12]

In order to avoid this conflict, a green cross is often used as a generic alternative.

Technically you can since there is no patent for it, they just asked.

Okiedoke, I've gotten much further on my Arachne Tree since the last time I was working on it. I've figured out how to do leaves now, they're still a bit messy so I'm just working on cleaning it up a bit and trying to figure out my colour.

Feel free to point out anything that looks weird or anything of that sort.

Patent and Trademark are often confused... Patents have nothing to do with this.

There are in fact several trademarks for the greek red cross and, in addition, it's a misdemeanor (in the USA, with legislation varying by country) to use due to the Geneva agreement, with fine up to $500. That said, its not very well enforced in video games and I wouldn't worry about it unless you're making a AAA game. Your lawyer would probably say 'make it green'.

"I wouldn't worry about it unless you're making a AAA game" doesn't sound like good advice, you're telling him that it's OK to do something illegal because there's a chance he can get away with it.

So yes, use something else. And for the record, I wouldn't use a green cross either, at least over here a green cross means "pharmacy" (drugstore).

If you were printing toys that would be more concerning, but with the nature of digital goods, you will only have trouble if the game is a big success. That would be almost a 'good problem to have' and then you can just issue an update to the game... For example Flappy Bird's use of Nintendo IP (which was much more serious).

I'm not advocating doing this, but a red cross is quite a universal symbol, it is misused all the time, everywhere, and is not enforced.

Thanks for the advice guys (especially eigenbom, that was enlightening).  I basically stole eigenbom's suggestion (let me know if you want me to change it) and came up with a sub-par version of what he showed me:

Here are a few key differences:

1) Now it says "HP" instead of "+"
2) I put the shine in the other direction.

I have a question about that shine, given where the light source is supposed to be (front, top and left) wouldn't my shine direction be technically more accurate?  I feel like the answer must be "no" because eigenbom's version looks so much better, but I don't understand why the answer is "no".
