glad to see FROM is still trying new things with their level design. after ds2, im glad they're at least giving some extra consideration to replayability

Migrated from GFWL to Steam today. Went smoothly other than having forgotten the GFWL password but oh well.

achievements and saves transfer went great for me too but unfortunately dsfix now crashes the game (at least for me).

EDIT: oooh apparently dsfix still works, just framerate unlock doesn't.

lol i actually waited for this as a an excuse to do a new playthrough, but as it happens im in the middle of demon's playthrough atm so gonna finish that first.

I just seem to keep putting it off for some reason. I was going to get DS II when it went on sale but I didn't, I was waiting until DS was free from GFWL and it looks like I'm going to skip on that too and going by some of the discussion in here it's the good one. Maybe I'd subconsciously prefer a Demon Souls port and it's affecting the decision making process. Or maybe it's because I think that Bloodborne looks cooler and I'm holding out for the port which will never eventuate. I suppose I can wait for multiplatform Bloodborne II because the first game is going to do gangbusters and I can go through this all over again.

It's hard to put into words. I feel the same way about it as I do with Devil May Cry to DMC 3 if you know what I mean.

if it's the about the atmosphere/"vibe" of the game, i can understand it. demon's has a special atmosphere that none of the other games in the series have, tho dark souls 1 has its own, also enjoyable, vibe as well. i think mechanically dks1 is slightly better but not by that much, and demon's still has the best level design (not world design!) of any souls game.

Diablo and D 2 are two more I feel similarly about and maybe a more accurate comparison but I didn't mention them because they aren't Castlevania.

The story telling is way more gripping in Demon's Souls in my opinion. Trust me nothing beats the experience in DS1 trying to piece together the lore via item descriptions, but the opening for Demon's Souls always rattles my bones.

Demon's Souls also has this really odd air to it, the forces youre fighting against feel much more omniscient and pursuing the origins of those forces is an amazing journey. There's just a really odd feeling in the atmosphere of Demon's Souls that I could only describe as neurotic folklore(?) Also dat art direction and color palette is timeless.

the way i used to describe demon's souls to ppl (before dark souls became famous) was "like diablo if diablo was actually serious about its setting". i personally think the souls games are closer to diablo (in atmosphere) than castlevania. never understood the castlevania comparisons.

What you mean to say is you don't understand why people don't differentiate Souls from Vania. If you don't see why people compare the two then you have a brain tumor and in that case RIP in Peace.

Now that the Steam update is live I think I'm going to FINALLY get around to beating the DLC area of Dark Souls, which I never even knew existed during my first playthrough, and couldn't be bothered to do in my second.

Maybe with Dex weapons I guess? I don't think I ever tried those much. What are you guys favorite Dex weapons?

Quelaag's Furysword is considered pretty good, can't remember why exactly; I think its dex scaling is only B but it has good animations and also fire damage.

However, expect trouble with it in DLC with fire/slash resit boss Tongue I'm there right now
Quelaag's furysword scales with humanity so if you can run with 10 humanity on you, good for you.
