I'm in the middle of reading it but: To put it another way it’s like were conducting a jazz session, but one to try and produce a superior experience. If an artist comes to us with an idea then we might suggest some something else before throwing it back. At times the studio almost feels like a live music session. Holy shit that feels like a game dev team process paradise to me!!! I mean, if I had a team on my current project, that's exactly how I would want it to feel/work.

Damn, in a strange kind of way I was hoping the reviews would be bad/mediocre so I didn't have to get a Sony Bloodborne-Playing Device But since I'm broke I'll just wait or buy it w/o the console and borrow someone's

So far the first level/area has better level design than any part of Dark Souls 2, and has a couple of insanely good Dark Souls 1 eque shortcuts.

Its 100% action based. No blocking, no shields, all dashing, and your stamina bar is a more effective (it doesnt deplete as fast). Narrow areas, and multiple enemies make circle strafing nearly impossible. Enemies in general are much more vicious and attack more often with less recovery time than you may be used to. Enemies also attack you in groups of different types rather than just 5 dreglings its 5 guys but they have different weapons, attack patterns, HP, def, etc.
All in all the combat is pretty GDLK.
I was concerned about the healing aspect. You can carry 20 blood vials that you use to heal for, at this point, just over a 3rd of my HP bar. But when enemies crush your face in 2-3 hits, you often don't have time to heal before you die. Blood vials are best used in an emergency or out of combat altogether. I haven't come close to running out but I feel like they will become more rare the farther into the game I get.
Also, about healing, the recovery system they have in place to recover red health is super good. Especially because since some enemies die in a couple of hits you just dont recover all of your lost HP.
Oh and uh... no backstabs.

Sounds rad actually I actually managed to find a store that broke the euro streetdate by a day so im on my way home with bloodborne right now. No collectors edition or other bs for me this time. buying a console for 1 game is enough fanboy vanity. EDIT: day one patch still dling i dont understand why ppl complained about the healing system. in demons souls you could farm grasses forever, in dark souls i never came close to running out of estus with 20 flasks and dks2 has like 5 billion different healing items on top of estus.

Damn, I'd need 441€ to get console and the game As much as I want to play it I think I have to skip it for now at least. Most likely I wouldn't play any other games with it.

btw can confirm what rat casket says. first level/area is classic souls level design all the way. big, nonlinear and loops around in unexpected ways. dks2 doesn't even hold a candle. also memorable setpiece fights are BACK BABY B). theyre also emphasizing long sequences with few checkpoints again unlike dks2's bonfire bonanza.
the game is basically a faster and streamlined souls gam that emphasizes offense over defense. which doesnt change the "feel" of the combat as much as u would think. its still souls combat but with a different focus (:. it also emphasizes everything in souls im bad at. ):
the BLOOD stuff isnt as cheesy as i thought
only criticism so far: higher fidelity means more visual clutter unfortunately. also means that hidden paths are harder to find tho so there is a tradeoff there.

i agree with the visual clutter. i find myself unable to focus. but, thats the case with a lot of modern games for me.

the maiden in black is BACK <3
so is the crazy sewer lady
2 of my favorite souls npcs
btw the loading times ARE long but not moreso than the ones in every previous console souls gam. and because i have my laptop sitting beside me while i play theyre a nonissue for me. also good way to avoid loading times: GIT GUD

same haha
the game really IS different from souls. im basically fucking up because im stuck in my old defensive turtling souls ways. seriously, your muscle memory and tactics from souls will NOT work in this game.
the interface is unfortunately *not great* and ignores a lot of the improvements dks2 made. welp.
i think u can really tell this was made by the original souls director and team tho. the changes to the formula are not *obvious* but they make total sense. dks2 in comparison feels like tanimura was trying to walk in miyazaki's shoes too much, fumbled around a bit and came out with some good and some shitty ideas. i LIKE dks2, mind you.
its weird but bloodborne is making me appreciate the design of the souls gams on a new level.
