1. the mess was/is pretty one sided
2. it wasn't a spiral but an ugly explosion of pent up gamer bigotry, ignited by what they wanted to think was a legitimate excuse to spew hatred/stalk/threaten/harass people

well more like she take action after trying to go under but the fire kept burning so she tried to build a fire team (crash override) which then got noticed because the fire was spread to the very celebrity that are jumping on board (the fappening).
So the fire was very content to burn without her fuel and we know it has been burning for at least 2007 with the Jade Raymond debacle (and jade raymond was push in front so she can failed when ass creed would failed, she actually save the project and shielded the team from the above).
That's the legacy, you can try to avoid the fire, you can try to give up to the fire and be burned to ash, OR you can build a Montgolfier to take advantage of the fact it's following you for no reason.
