I'm not really an artist, but I've been playing with some mockups under the NES palette. Working under this restriction has been pretty learnful. I did feel the need to sneak in 1 more shade of brown. For the original mock-up (top image) I tried to keep 4 colors per sprite, but I think I added an additional color in some places.

Now I'm not really sure which one I like most, any feedback?

Those reflections, the enviroment and sprites look great.
Do you have any gif or video of the game?

Miguelito: I like how, whether it's due to sheer style or not, the lady is a cyclops. It's cool.

Thanks!

Those eyes are actually stolen from inspired by Gary Larson, who gave them to dumb animals of every species (including humans):

I dislike anime eyes to be honest, and these are pretty much the polar opposite. Much like glasses, they force the viewer to get into the picture and interpret the whole face for themselves.

Totally thought the same thing on both points.

Haha, I didn't think about it, but that's true. The key-holding "evil" cat also is kinda similar in color to the villain cat from TU.

Please make this, yeah. The style's great. Concept seems really simple, which is cool.

I've been doing mockups for a super sekret summer 2015 project. I hope something comes of it! I made my little test guy link just because link is a cool guy

The game will feature 8 directional movement but since it's just a mockup why do all the workkkk

The idea is create ~4 slashes that can be played in random order. The attacks hitbox/collision itself will need to be adjusted to be the same regardless of strike to hopefully avoiding throwing off the player

I also thought it might be cool to have some kind of blur on REALLY heavy strikes (like when you kill an enemy). I feel like blur is a lot cooler than screenshake but I could be wrong

Each attack is roughly 4 frames, but the slash effect is like 6

Hacked together a thing today to see if a visual style that I had in mind for a while would work in practice.
I'm going to fiddle around with it some more, but personally I'm liking it so far Smiley

(The character is purely accidental and not what I have in mind at all, but it sure looks happy!)

^ Pretty crazy looking. Nice, smooth animation, and it looks cool with the outline shader; feels kinda 3D, in a sense.
