I don't know too much about editing, my wife does that thang for her vlog, and I've seen her editing her stuff on Adobe Premiere and I've also heard good things about Sony Vegas. Those two are not free, but I suppose there might be open source/free alternatives for video editing. Maybe even online stuff. If I find anything I'll let ya know.

Honestly? If you have a PC I would just use movie maker. It's free and good enough for some basic editing. When it comes to capturing, however, none of the free ones are that great. I just use the free version of fraps (which is why all the gifs I make have the fraps mark) but it might be worth buying if you want to do a lot of promotional stuff

I vote before i even post!

Anyway real good luck on your greenlight, i do hope i can help you much more but none of my friend own steam or care.
Also Movie Maker might be a good free stuff as long as you know how to not rely on their generic effect and stuff.(it's been so long i never open that software so i don't really know). But you should invest in paid editing software in the future.

Regarding Adobe though, i usually use After Effect than Premiere. Rendering is much faster and 3D(2.5D actually) is just an awesome power up for your video. I don't really know how it perform now though. That's the experience from CS3 era.

When in need of something I go there and click the freeware category tab

and I also go there if it is dev related
Notably you need to look here
