It would be interesting to see if IGF submissions *drop* from people taking their hopes and dreams elsewhere...

it may not drop but it might just not grow as quickly as it has been (e.g. it might only be 40 more games than last year instead of 100 more as per usual)

another issue is, greenlight has basically eliminated a major reason to enter the igf. a lot of people entered the igf primarily because it was much easier to get your game on steam if you were an igf finalist. steam didn't accept every single igf finalist of course, but it was generally true that, among indie games, igf finalists usually got on steam and non-igf finalists usually did not. igf prize winners almost always got on steam, i can't think of very many that did not

now, that's all changed. getting on steam is now a matter of getting a lot of votes, not a matter of being selected by a secretive igf committee. i expect this will make it harder for some games to get on steam, but easier for other games (e.g. would blueberry garden have gotten through greenlight? i like the game but from what i've seen of greenlight, i doubt it'd even be in the top 100)

I agree with that. The 100$ would be much better spent on greenlight.

have you seen all the game entered in 2012, some of these games were awesome, they dropped off the surface of the earth after the IGF, they would have had much more success on  greenlight.

So is it fair to say that IGF 2013 is going to be the best olympics yet?

This is pretty impressive.

But 0:03 is absolutely hilarious.

"Entries must be submitted by October 17th, 2012 at 11:59 PST."

So in England is that 7.59am on the 17th or the 18th?

I think I might as well, even though it's not technically brilliant, artistically brilliant, design brilliant or sponsored-award brilliant.

There's two games at work that are definitely going in (Flightless and Icebreaker iOS). I've got to make sure we launch our Greenlight demo pitch and well as submit to the IGF in one fell swoop. Don't want to screw it up as the Flightless demo was super popular in beta-testing. Would be a shame not to hit the press like the fist of an angry god with it and see if the Nitrome fan-hammer can smash the Greenlight top 100 list.

Don't be so hard on yourself. If anything it's fun and interesting. I tend to find myself playing the latest build whenever I can sneak in a quick 10-20 mins at work. It's definitely one of my favorite flash/browser games.

Thanks.

So does anyone know if it's Tuesday or Wednesday I've got to submit by or what? We've already had an extensive argument in the office this morning on daylight saving - I doubt I can get my head round it just now.

We're entering Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime to IGF this year and here is why:

There is a lot of IGF related coverage where everyone is excited about perusing the entries for gems.
I had a good talk with Ben Rivers a little while ago. He traced the start of his success to his trailer that he submitted to IGF. It got picked up by a bunch of blogs, he wasn't even a finalist and now it is on Steam. I don't know if our game is big enough to compete as a finalist, but I do believe that it is a gem.

Plug it into to Wolfram Alpha.  For instance, London is 7:59am on Thursday:  http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=October+17th%2C+2012+at+11%3A59+PST+in+London

interestingly this year the igf accepted the paypal debit card -- the last few years i tried it, it didn't work, and i had to use someone else's credit card instead, but this year it worked

anyway, the deadline is *tomorrow* for those who forgot

unfortunately i didn't manage to get my game in the state i wanted it in before submission due to a series of computer problems (i wasn't able to work on the game during the last 2-3 days at all, i had to change the hard drive, sata wire, re-install an OS and so on). i wanted to get all the major dream mode corridors (shmup levels) done before the igf. instead i'll just submit it in its current state and do those levels asap and update the game afterwards

This has probably been debated for several years already, but why the IGF takes 100$ submition fees?
The obvious benefit of this is to filter fake submitions, but 500 entrants paying 100$ each...
At least Valve was smart enough to make the 100$ submition go to charity.
