I love how the background color changes like that! Keep it up!

Thanks, the BG color itself isn't really changing, but just that the gif distorted some colors.

There's an overlay filter that constantly flashes in different areas over the screen.

^Might change some graphics in this one.

Don´t change anything there!! It´s looking rad, so, leave it as it´s now, those colorful shots are really nice (and break with the rest, they are really cool).

That boss´s behaviour reminds me to Metal Slug 2´s first boss (the jet), what it´s good.
The game overall reminds me to "enviromental alpha", another incredible looking game with it´s devlog around here, so, congrats man, you are making a really good work Hand Thumbs Up Left.

Thanks guys!

It is kinda a placeholder. If I make something better I'll switch it out.

Haha, nope! I've only heard of it, but never tried or seen any gameplay.

But it gave me an idea of adding some sort of player gravity switch. It'll be neat to
switch up player gravity in some areas. Thanks!  Smiley

There are actually a lot of good stuff in this game, not only that. I dunno why, but for some reason this banged in my head, when I saw the gif http://youtu.be/4Dnp6XdhkWY?t=23m47s , but I think it was in Super Mario first (meaning it is weird I got this association going on), now that I think about it Tongue

Yo guys.

I made the barebones of the SHMUP portion. I'll work more on it once I reach the point Kitty could get in this ship.

Before technology is out of my hands for a few days.

Here's a rough outline of the sequence when Kitty gets shot across the world by a cannon.

I'd also like to note that all level design screenies still require "extra beefiness"
that I'll apply at a later stage.
--WIP on map desert and some oasis like area under the desert.

I like how educational that sequence is in regards to atmospheric layers.

The last scene with the scaling, rotating, but otherwise unanimated cat doesn't do it for me. It feels different from all the other pixel art. I feel like if the cat didn't scale, but instead progressed through a couple frames of animation where he got bigger and then smaller again, it'd feel a lot more consistent with the other art in the game. The same with the earth scaling and rotating, though the chunkiness of the pixels makes it feel more authentic to 16-bit era pixel art.

Or maybe that's just my mind telling me "Hey, it didn't look like that on the SNES".

Everything else in the animation, especially crashing through the layers of the atmosphere, is absolutely perfect.

The keyhole blocks in the desert pics looks uncomfortably similar to the same items in Kyntt. Maybe that's not actually a problem, but the similarity was almost instantly obvious to me. Since so much of your game seems obviously inspired by Knytt it might fuel criticism that will only distract and detract from your work.

The big boss monsters, promises of SHMUP battles, and adorable animated sequences do a great job of differentiating your game.

The unanimated kitty looks out of place, everything else is beautiful though

Thanks!

Just got back and got quite a scare having some of my resources corrupted. I had whole scenes missing, bosses, npcs, etc. and my latest backups were screwed as well. Had to restore back to an earlier backup losing a couple hours progress. So no biggy, but damn!

Tell me what you think of this kitty. I animated him and removed the light-blue border on the planet.
