I am thoroughly obsessed with the Sega Genesis/Megadrive's Yamaha YM2612 sound chip. Its bass and distortion synthesis is outstanding. The sound it is able to produce has an undeniably powerful and unnerving black magic to it and the variation in its ability to literally and metaphorically shake your very core never ceases to amaze me. I consider it to be my favorite synthesizer of all time. Here's a track I wrote using the sound chip a few years ago: http://www.cyborgwar.com/sample.mp3

Here's an idea I've been fooling about with this afternoon: http://soundcloud.com/nathan-gallardo/es-05Really wish this wasn't clipping all over and mixed etc as I really dig the direction you're going.

Made a demo from my newly acquired JEN SX-1000 http://soundcloud.com/fafhrd/jen-sx-1000-demo-trackIt's very retro sounding.... I kind of want to add like it sounds like it belongs in a video game or it sounds kind of poppy, but I'll let you guys be the judge of that.

Part of my FAWM entry. http://fawm.org/I'm way behind so I'm not spending much time with mixing or trying not to clip. These are like demos of demos.

I really like this. It builds up very fluently and all the parts fit together well

@slinwyeg: This is amazing! This could just as well have been a track from one of the great SNES RPG games (If you plan on posting more soundtracks you could just as well have kept the separate thread. I trust that you are gonna make more tracks in this style )
