well, I'm not sure if this would be the right place to ask this, and my searches on Google has provided me with nothing, but, is there any way to make pixely things in flash cs4? I ask this because it's just a pain to go into photoshop and draw something up, import it all to flash to see how it works, find out I made a mistake, going back to photoshop, editing it, yadda yaddda yadda.

Wrong forum (edit: eh, maybe not) and no. Most people make pixel art flash games without the IDE using the flex sdk compiler because it's easier to manage the assets.

I wasn't specifically talking about games, just pixel art animations like paul robertson. but with flash, I am in love with tweens.
and also it doesn't have to be a true bitmap, it could still be a vector, just squares instead of curves!

I'll definitely look into that flex thingy though

The answer is still no. You can use greensock libraries for tweening without flash pro. I suppose you could make vectors act like pixels by making little squares, but that would be really, really slow.

if you set quality to low it sometimes looks like stuff is a bitmap

it's also possible to draw everything on the stage to a bitmap then scale the bitmap up to make it look pixelly, but that's a very inefficient method and doesn't really produce great results

really you should just make your bitmaps in a program for bitmaps

You can try Pixel Tools v.2 Flash plugin - it does exactly what you need (you can draw pixels in Flash straight away).
I've used in some projects and there are no performance issues.
You can download it here:

That tool is great, it let's you make vector pixel art, so you can rotate and scale it without any restrictions. Great for animation, bad for games (it hits your performance a lot, like every vector stuff in Flash)

No. Vector art in flash isn't "bad" for performance. The flash player is designed for vector art.

Look into flixel and flashpunk, both are raster-based.
