What is Chemistry Infinity?

Chemistry Infinity is a pseudo chemistry puzzle game inspired by Button Up!, Threes, Bejeweled and Tetris.

The goal of this game is to solve puzzles by creating molecules via bonding atoms in the screen.
Most levels will require you to create specific number of molecules using all of the atoms in the room.
Others will require you to create specific molecule, e.g. water (H2O).

How to play

The goal of the game is to solve puzzles by forming molecules via bonding atoms.

In order to form a complete molecule, all atoms within the molecule must be satisfied.
(If you are familiar with chemistry, it is known as the octet rule.)

For example, hydrogens require 1 bond to be satisfied.
You can form a molecule by bonding 2 hydrogen atoms.

Oxygens require 2 bonds to be satisfied.
You can form a molecule by double bonding 2 oxygen atoms.

Nitrogens require 3 bonds to be satisfied and carbons require 4 bonds to be satisfied.
You can form a molecule by triple bonding 2 nitrogen atoms.
However, 2 carbons alone may not form a molecule as 3 is the maximum number of bonds between 2 atoms.

The following is a sample puzzle in the game.

What's not finished?

I think I finished the basic structure of the game. I, however, want to add more levels, more mechanics,
and polish the game in terms of visuals, audio, and level progression.

My ultimate goal is to publish my game to Steam and Google Play.

You can download the current prototype for PC and Android here.

Added more levels, fixed some texts, fixed bugs, and made changes to game's aesthetics, etc.

I learned how important audio and the aesthetic of the game are.

My previous version's color theme looked great in my laptop. However, I realized that it looked vastly different on other devices.
I had to test my game with different colors on number of devices to make sure my game doesn't look . . off putting.
Since I have zero training in art (or anything in game design;) I am going to have to look up more materials on this subject to make my game look better.

Also, the level selection in android devices is not ideal as it was designed for PC users. I'm going to have to fix that.

I feel like the game has improved a bit and I hope people enjoy the current build.

Conceptually this sounds like a great educational game  Hand Thumbs Up Left

It sounds closer to word puzzle games like "wurdle", than "bejeweled" or "tetris".

Following things come to mind from a game design perspective:
  • How to support the player with information about existing molecules to solve the puzzles (to find words in "wurdle", players use their vocabulary which they use every day. not many players are as familiar with molecule combinations)

I think it is an important question you need to find a solution for. If you are able to do that, it will have a great potential as an educational game.

Heh, made something like this in a couple of days as a work sample a couple of months ago. Tongue

Feel free to steal anything. This was kind of fun, so hopefully your version will be even better!

Thank you for reminding me. I've been planning on properly implementing some sort of mechanics to allow players to understand what jargons without looking them up in the internet.

Even though there is absolutely no mention in the game(great game design, I tell you!), you CAN look at what the molecule looks like within the game.
You have to click the objective.

I am still trying to figure out how to improve in this area as the image may still confuse the players.
(Does the molecule have to be that specific shape? Does it matter as long as the molecule contains same elements? etc.)

Oh, thanks. c: It's only a prototype, so it's very lacking in content. You can only make a few molecules and get a few reactions going. The instructions are also only available in Swedish. But if you're interested nonetheless, I'll see if I can give you an executable. What OS are you on?
