I was confused about the game until I saw this video which actually gave me a bit of appreciation for it. If you have 12 minutes to spare, I highly recommend watching this.

Oh this is good.

His review of Hotline Miami was great too. Made me excited about self-aware games as it seems to be a necessary step towards something new. We're actually figuring out what games are.

or: people are deciding what the games they make are. I'd encourage anyone to watch a few of this guys reviews.

the thing about Campster's videos is that sometimes he reads too far into things. which isn't bad, just can be misleading and causes massive disagreements which isn't the goal of his videos. watch them with an open mind and don't be too dismissive, and even if you disagree you can still get a lot of decent information out of them.

I don't understand why Knights of Pen & Paper and 'the mindful xp volume' won. They look so generic. The Chrono Disfunglement, The Moonlighters and Narcosis should have won instead.

I don't think the student picks have a winner. I think they all win.

Yeah,it. Seems weird to pick a winner out of the eight when they're really diverse. But, ah, competitions.

There is a Best Student Game award.  Last year it went to "Way."

There's a long discussion about IGF judging in the beginning of this interview: http://www.heyash.com/index.php/keepin-it-real-with-edmund-mcmillen-and-tommy-refenes-of-team-meat/#singleHeader

it's a bit funny to me that now edmund and tommy think the igf judging process kind of sucks when, before super meat boy was passed over for the grand prize, tommy often made fun of me for my criticisms of the igf judging process and was one of the igf's biggest apologists

Fascinating, I hadn't bothered listening to this until now. Really good insight into the whole process and the problems with it, yet none of it dissuades me from continuing to enter games and being excited about it. I have to wonder if I'll eventually end up grumpy and bitter about the IGF if I go down the same path they did, though...
