I liked the former version better. The new distinction seems very strict.

Yeah, I can see the plus side for letting the creative parts all mix together.  And the icon idea isn't bad (I was actually going to use them for some of the other forums).

But we'll never know for sure unless we try this and give it a chance! Hand Shake LeftCorny LaughHand Shake Right

I don't think the strictness is a problem; just post it in the Creative section instead of one of the child boards if you think it doesn't fit within any category; I already did that with my post about the cool image software Alchemy yesterday.  Sounds can be used in the shape generation process, so both Art and Audio qualify, and I put it in neither.

I dislike the new layout. I used to just open each forum into a tab from the board index - Now I also have to open nested sub-forums.
Ah, same here!

For the most part I don't see this as too bad. You still have a main forum for each one that you can place the things you don't feel fit in any of the specific ones.

I personally believe it'll just take a bit of getting used to. If worse comes to worse, we can always revert to the old ways. It's too early to tell.

Thank god, the sub-forums show bold if there are new posts. Now I can continue opening tabs from the index Smiley

I wonder if there would be any benefit to language-specific subforums in the Technical subforum, like C/C++, Flash ActionScript, Java, Python, etc?

Not yet, but I'll bet that within a year that will be a good idea.  I figure as soon as navigation becomes really frustrating (eg. having to sort through a large amount of stuff that to you is irrelevant) then that's the time to start organizing.
