Great topic... I have one that I've been trying to figure out for a while. Been on an emulator kick lately and there was one particular Amiga game that I loved and can't remember the name of.

It was similar to Impossible Mission. You played this agent guy with a handgun. I think maybe you could get other weapons too. There were platforms and elevators. It has super-smooth movement and animation. For some reason I think the name started with either "C" or "E".

Any thoughts on that one?

I have a bit different question: I remember name, I remember what game was about, but cannot find it because name is *very* generic - I'll post it here, maybe someone could point me out.

Game was called Binary, 100% positive about that. It was run'n'gun platformer where you were inside of some kind of computer and fighting viruses (I think). It featured green-on-black graphics and was made either in The Games Factory (first one) or GM. I've played it either in late nineties or early 2000s. Would be grateful for a link to this game as I remember it being very fun.

Could someone help me find it? As I wrote, name's pretty generic so google doesn't turn anything and I have very happy memories associated with that game.

Read back a few pages and couldn't really be any help to anyone.

I have one of my own tho:

Spaceship game where you go around looking for minerals in tiny planets (you could dock on them). And you have to fight off other spaceships.
Somehow I remember the main ship being green and wide-ish, not pointy.

Win 98 around the time I was into playing shmups like Demonstar and Raptor

Yay, thanks, that's it. Sorry I didn't notice this post - it was late (for me) and I was tired.

Oh, it gets better. Perhaps you want to head on over to here:

I've been obsessing over this for a couple of days. I ended up trying a new tactic, searching for general Amiga screenshots on Google. I eventually spotted what I was looking for:

"Persian Gulf Inferno"

Will be playing through some of it this weekend Smiley

Oh man I just remembered this Demo I used to play all the time.

I  believe it was a PlayStation demo, it may have been PlayStation 2. All I remember is, it was an arena based fighting game, where your character could cast various spells depending on what combination of buttons you input.

I think the demo had two playable characters, one was a girl who used Ice and one was a dude who used fire/ki blob looking things.

There were small/fast spells, medium homing spells, large slow spells. You could move pretty quick and jump too. I think you could block and deflect if you timed it right as well.

The demo only had one stage which was just a grass land style arena.

I never saw it in stores, so I only ever got the play the demo. When I try to remember the name, all I get is Disgaea, but that's a totally different game so I assume the name was similar...

It had a pretty 'realistic' look to it and the demo could be played 2 player and you would fight each other.

Whilst it wasn't that, thank you for reminding me of that game... I had all four. My favourite being the third.

The game I'm talking about though was much more open and the camera was more looking down from above, so the characters were relatively small compared to the screen space

Edit: Huh, I found it by accident when looking at Battle Arena Toshinden.... The reason I thought it was Disgaea is because its Destrega, pretty close right?

I wish there was a site which listed all DOS games along with a screenshot so I could just browse and click through. I'm looking for something and I think I'd recognize it when I saw it but I'm pretty much unable to describe it. I last played it when I was ~6 I think (so 20 years ago).

All I remember is that you played with Q,A and O,P keys and it was really difficult (a puzzle game?) side-scroller type of thing and stuff was moving on ceilings maybe or on some tracks and I think there was something that looked like a balloon? Also robot-like enemies ... ? I might be wrong though. The environment had a strange technological/industrial look to it and I think I was a bit scared playing it. I think it had levels ... one level per screen ... or a section of a level on screen maybe which changed when you crossed the edge of the screen.

That's sadly all I remember. Again, if I saw it I'd probably recognize it.

The Q, A, O & P keys for playing is the only thing I remember for sure.

If you happen to speak french, or are very patient to just browse through, there was this series of magazines specialised in video games named Tilt, from 1982 onwards

you can read or download them here: http://www.abandonware-magazines.org/affiche_mag.php?mag=28&page=1

wait, i was mistaken, it isn't star control! i was just confused because they looked so similar in screenshots, and i saw a green spaceship (in this game i remember it was more circular in basic shape)! but it's definitely not this one, as i distinctly remember it using the word "dock" instead of "dispatch", and that you could move back by pressing back.

i also remember the ship in this being faster? or maybe it rotated faster.
another thing is while you were going planet to planet there were enemy ships trying to shoot you or dock on different planets so you can't dock on them. so that meant you could shoot while looking for a planet to "dock" on.

i went and installed star control 1+2, too, hahaha. i definitely do not remember anything from them.

EDIT:
not on this list, either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Multidirectional_shooters

Holy crap. 21 pages in and I found it! Thanks man!! Beer!

This site is awesome. The screenshot was in EGA and I played it in CGA (as it turned out) but it looked familiar on first glance. The spinning beach-ball kind of enemy in the video assured this is the right game. I remember that now.

The Last Mission:

Funny how I remembered pretty much everything about it wrong. I had no idea it was about a tank with a detatchable turret. Oh man. Thanks again!

I'm glad you found it!

I didn't knew the game, but it seems nice (except for the laser firing sound Wink)
