I've been working on key frames for this little guy. Just for fun really, but hopefully I'll get around to animating a few of them.

Retroy, I love that design a lot! simple and compact, but also a nice style, especially how you did the eyes with the curve instead of just straight lines.

^ Yeah, I like it too. Compactness really helps pixel art look better, I think. It seems like chunkier sprites are more aesthetically pleasing overall than more realistically proportioned sprites; maybe it's that you can express more emotion with chunkier proportions over more realistic proportions (or, at least, it's easier to do that with the face of the character). Although, it might also just be a preference of opinion.

Anywayyy, nice work, Retroy!

I think the abstraction allows the viewer to identify and fill in the 'gaps' with something that makes sense for them. With realism you will appreciate the art but you will project less of your ego onto the character.

Thanks guys! I totally agree, simplistic and cartoony sprites can have a lot of personality and charm to them, (especially in motion). It leaves more to the imagination, whereas the more realistic and detailed sprites have more of a "wow"ing effect.

Might have to work on him a bit more now.

Hey, here is an edit and clean up on my characters run, turn and shoot animation, based on the edits and feedback I received from Arachne and Jad over the last few days. Thanks lads.

Still have to have him turn back to the right, though. Will have to get to that eventually  Smiley

not entirely sure Arachne is a lad, that's up to her

anyway, if I was a stuck-up butthole I'd be irked over the fact that you used my animation as a blueprint instead of trying to do a take on it from your perspective with my animation in mind

but I'm not a stuck-up butthole at all, I'm positively delighted that you wanted to use my motion for your sprite, and it looks really good too! <3 <3 <3 <3

Happy we could help n______________n always fun when this community acts like a community.

Sorry, Arachne! My mistake, apologies for the assumption. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for not being a stuck-up butthole  Tongue I made a few small edits when I was cleaning it up, but other than that I couldn't really modify or improve on it in any meaningful way. It's perfect in my opinion, my own take would have been a lot weaker. You've even opened my eyes to a few things I was being lazy about while animating. Things I know, but wasn't going the extra mile to get there. I'm glad you don't mind, it's nice to find a helpful community. Thanks again.

I'm technically not a pixel artist, but I'm doing the pixel art for my game for now.

What do you think?

It's a great start, Translocator.

I like the richness of the blue in the background. I'm not a fan of the noise texture that seems to be running through it, though. The tiles are quite basic, too. You should look at some other tile based games for reference and figure out a texture.

Best of luck with your project.

Cellusious, I am very much so in love with those designs. The first one reminds me of a more abstracted Smithy from Super Mario RPG. Masterful pixels!

Here's a couple of older gifs I made for a mock-up JRPG:

Nice! Smiley

here is a small dump of some of the pixels I have for mine and slyms game project, which most has already been posted (but slightly updated!)

My work flow is really weird...
