I don't blame him. It's a nice way to shuffle off the support work to someone else.

Cancels Oculus Rift support because they sold to Facebook. Sells own company to Microsoft.
I really want to see this happen before I believe it. Notch is already a multi millionaire, so the money shouldn't be all that much of a draw. And Microsoft has a tendency to shut down the studios they buy, so it doesn't seem good for Mojang as a company in the long run.
EDIT: On the other hand, I could imagine Notch deciding to split a huge chunk of the 2bn between the employees of the company...

Wouldn't that make every employee a millionaire then? Like, there aren't that many employees in Mojang, are there?

Notch wanted to fund Psychonauts 2 at one point and talked about it with Tim Schafer if I remember correctly.

It is amusing to see that newspapers like WSJ still refer to Minecraft as a "cult hit" when it has sold more than 50 million copies and is the third best-selling video game of all time. By that definition, the only video games that can't be considered cult hits are Wii Sports and Tetris.
If I was a little more cynical, I would say it's a deliberate attempt to marginalize self-published content and cater to the "old fogeys who don't understand videogames" demographic.
