The music is good, although the low-health siren doesn't have much of an effect because it's drowned out by all the other music now.

I tried using a cheating program to get extra points without getting any preset abilities, but apparently illegitimate points don't unlock higher tiers. I guess I can report that your anti-cheating measures are working.

here's a fixed (no leveling) set of perks and changes to the game i suggest for the alternate mode (arcade/steroids/ortoslon mode):

perks:

large (20?) quiver for small non-ghost stars
practically unrestricted fire rate (add some tiny cooldown to prevent turbo-key cheating)
star>
star^
leap (uppercut)
quick recovery
weak bubble magnet
infiknees (no fall damage)
manystomp (as per my suggestion)
a punch that is as large as current superpunch but doesn't kill instantly (damage 2 or 3 instead)

changes:

no wrap
no leveling bubbles
more enemies
because there will be much more bubbles, make star powerups provide less (3?) stars and make heart powerups rarer in the queue (1 in 7?)

Oh also there's working music at last, which is kinda cool.

i find the music in the flash version jarring, not because of how it's composed, but because of how the synths sound

could you elaborate on this? do you want the instruments to sound softer, like the original? any instruments in particular that you don't like?

yes, the original sounded okay. higher-pitched lines sound worse than lower-pitched ones

I think it sounds pretty great, although I've not had a chance to compare it to the original.

Maybe I should do that soon!

Anyway: ortoslon, I'll play around with it. I've already been pondering multiple modes with fixed abilities, so this could certainly work. No promises, though!

Am I the only one who feels the flash version is less smooth then the old .exe?

With the new features it's significantly more awesome though! :3

o:
Less smooth?
Tell me more! Does the game's FPS (seem to) waver unevenly at points?
Does it run better if you turn the music off?

Allright, I don't think the FPS wavers and playing with or without music doesn't seem to change anything. Maybe I'm spoilt by the old .exe version. But the flash version just seems to go a little less smooth.

It does appear to run smoother when I play it on my Mac, which is a very weird thing, cause I'm sure my PC better then my Mac. But I've experienced this difference in smoothness with my own game too, it plays better on my Mac then on my PC.

So, maybe you could put an FPS counter in your game just for testing, so I could give you some more accurate information.

Btw, Fishbane does run smooth on this PC, so I'm guessing it has nothing to do with your library (assuming that you used Flashpunk for both)

Cheers

Right. I keep forgetting I need to make an FPS counter for you guys :p

Actually, this game runs at 45-50 FPS because I set all of the values too high for 60 (I took many straight from the original P0, which also ran at a default of 45-50); that may be what's causing this issue, because the original game was allowed to run faster -- to a maximum of 60, probably, since that's always a reasonable number.

TO-DO LIST:

Ability Descriptions (help me out maybe?)

Bosses and other fancy Late-Game Content

Menu Shit
> High Scores
> Ortoslon Mode & Other Modes

Sound Effects (may be waiting on jmickle)

ISSUES TO FACE OFF AGAINST:

Feels choppy

Enemies poking their heads between diagonally 'attached' blocks (those jerks)

That's kinda it, I guess :3

jmickle: gonna pm you again :3 forever

droqen it doesn't sound like you did much: ssshhhhh

OKAY SO I MADE A BILLION SOUND EFFECTS IN AS3SFXR-B

New version uploaded.

Lots of stuff is done.

~

I'd love some sound effect feedback. Did I miss anything? Is there anything that sounds just weird?

note :: the menu will have sound. it doesn't at the moment.

Hey! I'm loving the new stuff :D I think the beginning 'tutorial' thing is really clever. Because it kind of forces you to understand the game before you're allowed to play it :3 nice one!

I would love to play some more and figure out all the skills and see all the enemies, but the game still runs really unsmooth... Sad could you add an fps counter so I could see if the fps fluctuates or if it's just at an all time low? I'd love to see this game running smooth on my pc ^^ (like the old gamemaker one)

FPS counter. It's weird, and made to jump down faster than it jumps up to catch lag spikes.

Also, a sound loady bar screen.

Sorry dude :3

Anyways, the FPS counter hangs steady between 33 and 35. What's the intended FPS?

Edit: Oooh, the loader fits very nice into the game. I love how organic the game's start is. Very unconventional... in a good way! ^^

haha that's no problem!

It runs at 35ish FPS for me too (that is as I intended it, to be explained below), and it doesn't really feel choppy.

I kinda made everything move too fast each frame, and reworking everything to work for 60 FPS...
sssiiiggghh
should I do that |:

EDIT thanks for complimenting the intro I'm glad you like it :3

RESULT OF OPERATION SIXTY FRAMES PER SECOND:
      NO

reasoning:

It doesn't feel different enough to be worth it for me

Also it lags on my lil baby netbook
which means it won't run well on every computer in the world

Double also, it's a lot of work (I only made it about halfway)

if you desire to try the sorta-finished smoothie version, it is here. no, I will not implement it via an option in the main menu or something. sorry.
warning: enemies are really fast because I haven't slowed them down in this version
