If you don't mind me asking, why are you fighting maids? Also, I have a feeling Anita Sarkeesian is gonna be soooo happy with this! On a serious note though, it looks really good!

A maid-enemy for my game: Love it! That style is pretty strong - would love to see what kinda backdrop that would be against. Here's my pixel daily for today...

Thanks everyone If you don't mind me asking, why are you fighting maids? One of the levels in the game is "Mansion", so it happened that the maids are working in that mansion. Actually, that's all .

@diegzumillo I really like the way the sky looks, so bright *woah* and the apple smiling is just so..@seanNoonan by far the most pleasant jello animation from the entries I saw I felt like making these 2 a while ago, it was pretty fun to mess with karts.

^ Pretty cool. I think you might want to darken the colors and up the contrast a bit, as it seems rather bright (on my monitor, though, so I don't know for sure). Shading would be good on Bowser's right arm (not the one holding the shell), as it seems to just "come out of nowhere" from under the shell. The forms could be refined and implied a bit more, too (the wheel, for example, on Bowser's kart seems to be behind him because you drop the outline right as it gets to his hand, and there's no shading or sufficient contrast to indicate the wheel against bowser). Overall, though, these are pretty good. Nice, consistent work for large scale sprites.

Just some concept art for a game I'm working alone on. Should I continue? I'm pretty new to pixel art but I'm trying to get better.

Pretty good for a start! As the first thing I'd recommend trying to get some contrast between sprites and background, or between game plane (sprites + platforms) and background. There's a ton of ways you can do that:
- lightness (one dark, the other light) - sharpness (one with black outlines, the other without) - saturation (strong colors on one, faded colors on the other) - hue (pick two general colors and more or less assign them to either part)
...As well as a ton of other, fancier options! If you google games you like while keeping an eye on how they separated sprites from scenery, you'll find a lot of other tricks.

Quick low res reinterpretation of Rusty from SteamWorld Dig. He's a bit wide too wide for NES spec, but then again SD doesn't usually :durr:have that many sprites onscreen at the same time

Hey folks, haven't posted in a while. Here is a sample of some pixel art from a game I'm working on called Darkside Detective. It's been proving quite popular on Twitter and Facebook so far. I thought I'd share it with you. It's a game we started during a game jam late last year. We had a lot of fun with it so we decided to turn it into a full game. You can play the game jam prototype HERE You can also follow its progress on Facebook if you're into that sort of thing.

Haha, good point. We might have to add that in as the game progresses through the various cases.

Though the hands and arms look a bit funky and the animations could use some work. Also the way the font pops up was a bit fast and distracting.
