has anyone played around with this at all?

Why does it need quicktime? Is that only for video playback? Can I use cinder without the quicktime SDK?

Quicktime is for video playback.

I'm really impressed of it as a whole and I think it could be used pretty well to make video games. It's fast, well-designed and as it is made for Visual Artists in the first place it allows some snazzy effects relatively pain-free.

I imagine the QuickTime support is a hold over from Processing. Processing could do nothing but QuickTime, so I imagine if you're an old Processing user wanting to move your video work, you'll be wanting more of the same.

I ran into the same trouble when trying out a copy of MaxMSP.

So Cinder is to C++ as Processing is to Java? That's simplifying it though.

I just took a look at processing and if Cinder is more of the same than I might have to try it out sometime for some of my pet projects. Hand Thumbs Up Right

Using SDL?

Well, i don't see why anyone would use SDL when librarys like SFML has been released, but... Using SDL as a "base" looks really weird to me, especially considering that fact that it's 10 time slower for certain operations than other library(yeah, still talking about SFML).

Weird. Take something slow and make it slower. Weird.

I'm sorry but you absolutely have no idea about what you're talking. SFML uses OpenGL for its 2D stuff whereas SDL is purely software based. That's probably what makes you think that SFML is faster. FYI, you can use OpenGL with SDL too.

I guess he's just saying that hardware accelerated rendering is faster than software rendering.
