ya but what i am saying is its not a losing state, but having some of your best characters die later in the game does reset your progress to a certain extent. so it's a bit like restarting from a checkpoint. leveling is extremely important, the guild and blacksmith have no real use to a level 0 char. its not like you can win the game purely through grinding for upgrades a la rogue legacy

Playing The Witcher 2, the graphics and animation and combat system has definitely improved from The Witcher 1 but some of it feels very consolised, like not having a mouse to move around, abbreviated speech options and completely dropping the fighting styles system which was actually quite cool.

I've been playing Invisible, Inc. It plays a lot like the new Shadowrun games with a focus on stealth. Each playthrough consists of a few procedurally generated missions in which you sneak around and steal powerups, upgrades, and gear for your team.
It's designed like modern roguelikes. You get rewarded a lump sum of xp at the end of your runs, and if you get enough, you unlock other characters/classes to play as. It's still in alpha, but it's a lot of fun.

DROD: The Second Sky finished on a pretty strong note, with an ending that strongly suggests finality. It's comforting to see a long-running series manage to hit a successful conclusion. Definitely keeping my recommendation to play that if you've played the previous games.
I got a key to Anoxemia and have been playing that. The game feels a bit like something you'd play on a flash game portal, but for the most part its fun and has good production values. It has some minor physics puzzles in it involving pushing around boulders, and it feels a bit like a metroidvania since you get lots of passive permanent upgrades if you poke around the corners of each map. It leans toward a horror title and has some minor jump scares like fake-out enemies on your radar, or sudden traps that spring when you enter a dead-end.
I could recommend it if you're looking for some low-stress horror that can be played in short bursts.
The Casino in Ni No Kuni is fun almost singularly because Platoon is fun to play. I'm disappointed that it's so easy to accumulate a million credits because I want to play more rounds of platoon (and probably will).

Awesome! I've been chipping away at it slowly; just entered Lemming Beach. No idea how much more game is left, and I kind of like it that way. Some of the puzzles have pushed my brain almost to the breaking point. I've had to abandon way more secret rooms to work them out later than I did in the previous two games, and I'm not sure I'll ever solve some of them without help. I wouldn't mind a few more combat-heavy sections to give my brain a rest once in a while, but I guess there's only so much depth to be had in the combat system without making every room an intricate puzzle box.

The game does feature a "Get online help" button that conveniently sends you to a forum thread about your current room to get hints. I admit I had to use it a couple times in the late game to get hints to some of the nastier rooms.
You're also likely to have trouble if you aren't familiar with mechanics like monster movement order (lowest number monster gets movement priority) since some late-game rooms exploit it very heavily. There are a lot of rooms that seem to not test your logical ability so much as your ability to remember all the room elements and their interactions.

Forsaken Isle looks awesome. I'm just waiting for it to leave Early Access before I play it.

Yep, that's usually the problem for me. That said, it seems like there have been quite a few rooms already that introduce a new mechanic by requiring you to already know it to solve a puzzle, so I end up blundering around until I stumble on it by chance... I did all of Journey to Rooted Hold and The City Beneath without looking up solutions for anything, and I'm trying to keep my pace here... There was one room in JtRH where I had to ask for some hints from my viewers (I've been playing all of these on YouTube), but other than that it's been done entirely blind. Second Sky is really testing my resolve to keep it that way.

The Fall is pretty short but super cool. The relatively simple puzzles are bolstered by the detailed animations and the setting is fun. The quality of the voice acting is high, too. The ASCII menus are a great touch.
I'm slightly disappointed that they didn't incorporate more puzzles based around endangering your pilot to bypass restrictions - the middle part of the game is puzzles that could exist in any adventure title with any protagonist. There are a couple of difficult puzzles at the midpoint when you have a lot of area to cover and a few puzzles hinge on a sequence of actions, but for most of the game the puzzles are relatively obvious and easily solved. The game is even generous enough to make some objects unselectable after they have been used to solve their puzzles.
It ends on a cliffhanger, however, so maybe it's better to wait until the next one comes out so you don't have to wait to see what happens in episode two. Ultimately, though, it's fun and runs on an unusual premise.

New Monster Hunter game is out, big Dota 2 patch is coming out, and I have a Twilight Imperium game scheduled tomorrow with the expansions that I have to study rulebooks for... goddamn. So many things are happening. I can't handle all the happening!

majoras mask 3d just dropped and im contemplating whether to get it as part of a NEW 3DS bundle. i still have the original 3ds (bought on launch day) and its kinda battered and the screen size and wonky 3d is also a problem for me. ive been meaning to buy an XL for years but always put it off. my budget would take a big hit tho, esp since im also planning to buy a ps4 in march. but i guess i could manage by eating out less and not wasting money on stuff like music and steam games haha. we'll see.

Sony put Rogue Legacy on the PS+ instant games collection. I've been playing the crap out of it ever since. I had played it a little bit on my PC, but hadn't gotten that deep into it. Now I'm hooked.
