Launch trailer:

Welcome to the devlog about my current game “Destroy the Porn”, and game about destroying porn…... I should be more specific.

The story follows our hero Joe as he first arrives in hell, after his untimely death. Joe quickly strikes a deal with the devil where in which he is allowed 1 minute back on Earth, if he is able to conquer Hell’s labyrinth, and defeat The Beast at the end. What does he intended to do with his 1 minute? Why destroy all his porn before it’s discovered by his family and friends of course. It’s not the most noble quest, but it would break Joe’s heart if his poor sweet mother where to discover what a massive pervert he truly was.

The gameplay for “Destroy the porn” is somewhat of a cross between Super Meatboy, and Super Metroid, which is why I’m calling it a “Super Meatboid”. The game has the 1 hit kills, and quick fire respawns of Meatboy, while retaining some of the, explore and upgrade gameplay of the Metroid series. All in all it’s a fun little 10 minute romp through, hell.

I likely should have posted this Devlog earlier, but the graphics were not put in place until a few days ago. Previously it looked like a bad Atari 2600 game. This was my first attempt at a game without an artist, and I must say I miss having one very much.

Things that got done today.
-added 2 tracks to the game
-added a lighting system
-made a video, showing the visual changes the game has undergone this week.

I hope you enjoy the video. Spelling Nazi's prepare to cringe at the end.

Great concept. Judging from the video, it looks like a lot of fun to play.

I actually prefer the old art better. You can tell what's going on a bit more, Like that area when you get the shotgun, I could tell where you had to go in the old ones, but not in the newer art style.

Things are at the far end of the home stretch. All but one music track is created, and in the game. I’ve been spending the last several days bug hunting, and throwing on that last layer of polish. I have also put in the main menu, and made sure all the lighting looks much smoother. I expect the game should be released before Sunday if all goes well.

This was a concern of mine as well. To alleviate this, I use the lighting to guide the player. Not too obviously though.

I really like the story idea and the constant narration of the player character looks like it could be a nice touch, provided the speech bubbles don't end up getting in the way.  Looking forward to seeing how it plays.

I'm super excited to announce today we have launched the game

You can download it from the DrunkDevs site.

Or play it on GameJolt.
If you do I would love a rating from you. Good or bad (honesty is always appreciated)

Check it out and let me know what you think.

It's nice.  Kinda short, but the plot is amusing and the gameplay is fun.  I'm sure you could easily expand it by providing a few more challenges utilizing each powerup before giving the next one, but I suppose there is something to be said for keeping a game short and to-the-point.

One small bug I noticed: just after the intro and sometimes when moving between screens the main menu would flash up for a fraction of a second.

I agree with this completely. Especially in the later levels.

I noticed this when watching a "let's play" video of the game. I have absolutely no idea what is causing this. I can only assume it has something to do with the way GameMaker 8.1 handles room transitions
