Just thought I'd mention that I've followed up my Touhou Project article with my top 100 indie games list at Caltrops, the world's greatest purple website:

The list was actually written a couple months ago so it's already a little dated.

That's a great list! I actually feel ashamed I haven't played some of those games

Personally I find lots to disagree with on that list, but I suppose tastes vary.

Still, no Armadillo Run at all whilst including that awful Space Hulk clone by teardown.se really can't be right, can it? Sure, I love Space Hulk - Richard Halliwell's original design was great. Then not only do they clone it (which should itself disqualify them from any top 100 ever) but they even make rules changes which harm the gameplay.

I need to play more of those games -- I think I've only played about half. I wasn't aware OMF2097 was an "indie" game. I bought it on floppy.

In his defense, nobody can play every indie game that exists (except for Tim W of course). I'm sure anyone's personal top 100 list would be much different if they played every game ever made.

I myself tried to play Armadillo Run but found that it couldn't run on my computer (something to do with an OpenGL incompatibility with my video card). I've seen videos about it and it does look great though.

I think in general though it comes across as less like a 'top' 100 list and more like a "here are 100 indie games", especially with the terse write-ups a lot of them got.

Plus the top 5 most overrated comes across as begrudging resentment.

I have no problem with lists like this as long as they don't hold themselves up as some definitive list of the best games (definitive in my mind would be a large-scale polling effort rather than one person's idea of what's great).  There are a few games on there I haven't played, which really makes these lists useful.

I sometimes think that these top 100 lists are just 90 games in random order, then put the "top 10 games" to an actual "Top 10" list.

However, nice to see lots of bullet hell/SHMUPs in the list.
