Ok, I enjoyed the 'post your smilies here' thread. And we have some good ones on the forum. But I want to test you. I want you to push yourselves.

So I give you:

The Useful and Unusual Smilies Challenge!

You will make smilies for me on a series of themes, and I will pick the winners. The winners will have something to be proud of. The losers, as always, will be the losers.

Hall of Fame - Winners of previous rounds:

1. Polite Laugh, by Moth:
2. Mock Outrage, by Gorgoo:
3. Idiot, by Fifth: .
4. Concerned, by Moth:
5. Pleading, by PlasmaMan:
6. Sarcastic Laugh, by sereneworx with help from Cheater and michael:
7. Acquiescence, by PlasmaMan:
8. Addiction, by Plasmaman:
9. Hands:
Plasmaman:
Zaphos:
Sparky:
Radnom:
kYn:

Special Mentions - great smilies that didn't win:
, by Xion, which I call 'A Scolding'
by Sparky, which I call 'Aneurysm'
by Neon, 'Babbling'
by Neon, 'Horrified shock'

Round 1:

Polite laugh. Someone has posted a joke that you didn't find funny, and to be polite you want to post a laughter smiley. However, you don't want other people to think that you found it uproariously funny, per :D, because it just wasn't. This is not a sarcastic laugh smiley (that would be awesome, and may come in a later round.) This is a smiley you post to be nice. To someone who isn't funny.

This smiley also may be of use when someone posted a lengthy joke and you couldn't be bothered reading it.

Post your entries below: the round ends either after 1 day, or when an obvious winner is produced.

So it's basically the laugh you have to do when your grandparents tell you a 'hilarious' joke?

I use this all the time in real life (and sometimes even in one or two of my fake lives).

Yeah exactly! It's a very commonly needed and used expression, but we don't usually have it online.

I love to, but I'd need a base.

"Ha ha, ri-right, yeah."

Yeah I'm not sure how well I pulled it off, probably not that well.

I made this base out of the Smiley in mspaint:

edit: damnit I was beaten to the base graphic draw

I like it. It's clearly not a belly laugh, but it doesn't look mean either. I like what you did with the eyebrows. Kindness eyebrows.

It's solid, and it could win, but it's not a clear slamdunk, so the competition is still on.

Alright Moth, you are the winner and sole entrant for round 1!  :D
Your winning entry goes in the hall of fame at the top post.

Perhaps I will get some more interest with...

Round 2:

Mock Outrage.

On these forums, if you don't like what somebody says, you have  Angry (I am really, truly mad),  Sad (I am kind of sad) or  Cry (I am mock-sad for comic purposes).

What smiley do you use if somebody says, for example, that they bought Shadow of the Colossus but never played it? Or if they say that they liked Final Fantasy IX? You have to make some kind of elaborate rebus like  Angry + Wink + Lips Sealed

Mock outrage. For when you're outraged, over something stupid.

I suppose it's time to switch the topic title to "Moth makes smilies", then?

Nah, it's good... as long as you don't animate those teeth chattering. Smiley
