Mr. Yes, you are to write a piece of duration no longer than one minute and thirty seconds, with a 5/4 time, which changes speed each bar. No two bars may be the same speed. You must submit your entry in an especiall low-quality mp3 format (32kbp/sec stereo total bitrate), and it should be written with this requirement in mind. Hm. Interesting. Thank goodness, this could have been much worse! I could have gotten Michael's brief.

If you want, I can give you a brief right now. But, you know, be careful what you ask for...

Dock, you are to write a piece, of during no shorter than one minute and thirty seconds, consisting of ten instrumental lines (for ten different instruments), with no instrument dropping out for an extended period of time. Ten? Oh wow! o__o By which point into the track should all ten instruments have started? Terry, please prepare an ambient piece of length no shorter than ten minutes. Do not have it based upon a chord progression. Terry, please prepare an ambient piece of length no shorter than eleven minutes. Do not have it based upon a repeated chord progression. Hurry up Terry, it's getting longer!!

Did I say ten instruments? Excuse me, I meant eleven (funny thing: whenever people ask for clarifications, I always remember things like that). They should all have entered within the first ten seconds.

Oh no! Another clerical mishap, I'm afraid. I actually meant 12 minutes, Terry. Sincerest apologies. I'll update your brief now.

Mr Games, you do realize that you are late, yes? Do you not know that it is impolite to keep your mistress waiting? Nonetheless, I have added a brief for you to the main list.

Uh oh you know I actually misunderstood what this whole thing was about. But no matter, it's even better than what I thought. Core Xii, write a piece of music, of length no less than two minutes, of a similar pace of harmonic progression as 'Machinary', in which no chord is repeated (inversions are okay). Your piece of music must also contain a sample of you saying "I would like to apologize to my mistress for my snarky use of quotation marks". I have no education in music theory so I don't understand most of this... harmonic progression? What harmonic progression? There are no chords in Machinary. Or do different instruments playing different notes count together as a chord? And what's chord inversion? If I understood Wikipedia correctly, it's when you have say a chord of C5, E5 and G5; and an inversion would be G4, C5 and E5? (like the top/bottom note flips to the other end?) The "snarky" quotation marks were due to misinterpreting the challenge part of the challenge, can we please ditch the sadistic lyrics?

I have no education in music theory so I don't understand most of this... harmonic progression? Underlying sequence of chords. What harmonic progression? There are no chords in Machinary. There are some synch chords, though you might have them sampled as single 'notes'. The bassline also implies a harmonic structure. I can do a chord breakdown of machinery (though it's pretty simple), if you think it would help? Or do different instruments playing different notes count together as a chord? In terms of harmony, yes. . And what's chord inversion? If I understood Wikipedia correctly, it's when you have say a chord of C5, E5 and G5; and an inversion would be G4, C5 and E5? (like the top/bottom note flips to the other end?) That is it. Inversions have a similar effect to the original chord, but are usually 'weaker'-sounding in some sense. If you think it'll be a good learning experience for you to do the brief as given, I can happily keep on this chit-chat if you feel it beneficial. If you would like me to give you a new (but similar) brief in a less-theoretical register, I can do that also. can we please ditch the sadistic lyrics?
If you mean to imply that your mistress is a sadist, well, that would be correct.
