Readers of this thread may be interested in the new Reanimators forum as a supplement to the TIGS forums for the discussion of animation in games. This one has the distinction of being founded by the guys who organize the Animation Bootcamp at GDC, so topics lean towards things relevant to professional animation specifically for games. It's fairly quiet mostly, but there have been some interesting discussions.

Working on my basics! I'm currently figuring out OpenToonz, a free animation suite apparently used by Studio Ghibli. It's got some very nice features, though the interface is a bit forbidding at first. Definitely a step up from Photoshop in terms of rapidly animating frames. I suspect I'll wind up keyframing in Photoshop, before moving to OpenToonz to do the breakdowns and inbetweening.
