You will have my eternal gratitude... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1483931/FreeDee_LOG2.exeThis *might* fix your problem completely (I fixed some code which was probably harmless, but pretty stupid nevertheless), but if it doesn't, what it should do at least is properly handle the errors and give a nice specific error message box rather than that crappy "Runtime error!" thing, so I can nail the issue down to a single cause. In the discussion thread Melly has said that it's fine to add bug fixes into the finished entries so long as we don't do anything to the actual content, so I want to get this sorted so as many people can play this as possible.

Last time, I promise: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1483931/FreeDee_LOG3.exeThe reason it's the last time is because if this doesn't work on your machine, I give up. There's some wacky internal error happening in OpenGL, the cause of which mystifies me (are your graphics drivers up to date? Only thing I can think of). Even with the 3D stuff involved, I make a point of only trying to use the completely boring and standard OpenGL stuff that's been in place since the beginning of time, so I have no idea why it could be a problem for you. Anyway, bits of my game were a bit harsh at dealing with OpenGL errors, so I've made it so that the game will log errors in the text file but not actually stop. If you could let me know: - If it runs this time (fingers crossed!) - If everything looks okay (red/cyan nonsense aside). Do the fonts render, do the sprites look okay, etc. - If the game seems to run at a reasonable speed, or if it's all slow and nasty - If anything new crops up in the log file (probably involving something like "glGetError: GL_NEEDS_MORE_COWBELL" or whatever), and where it crops up. I'll bung in a "special thanks" credit for you, for being so helpful.

It runs! ...kinda slowly, I think. This may be the fault of my computer, though. Also, the transparency on the menu text didn't seem to be working. It was a series of rectangles to me. The sprites and backgrounds and dialog text all seemed to be working, though. YAAAAAAY! Competition entry updated, fixing feeblethemighty's vsync problem, and Fifth's unspecified OpenGL problem, and adding some extra credits to the readme. Fifth, thanks for being so patient with all that stuff. For what it's worth, the menu text (and the ingame dialogue stuff) is on top of translucent rectangles deliberately, just to help differentiate it from the background. I don't know without being able to see it running on your machine how slow it is, but if you happen to be feeling particularly curious, running it with "-developer" as a command-line option puts it into windowed mode rather than fullscreen, which shows the framerate in the title bar (it's a solid 60FPS for me)... Running it in that mode also turns on a bunch of extra controls and menus which are excitingly undocumented and can do weird stuff Although if you can be bothered to try it, and if it is slow, there's not much I can do about that anyway...

Beat it! Now my eyes are adjusting back to normal... Definitely a sucker for 3D glasses though. It reminds me of other games (such as Grace's First Adventure) except instead of shifting the player's plane, you're shifting pieces of the environment, which lends itself more to puzzles!

The game looks awesome, and has some neat puzzles. Very nice 3D effects. But I gotta get myself some 'real' 3D glasses. I was trying to use some freebie that were laying around from some movie, but they used GREEN and RED. Which doesn't quite have the correct result XP. Ill have to find some standard 3D glasses.

Hmmm. Did the ingame dialog text work? Or the text on the credits/instructions screen (3rd and 4th rectangles from the top)? Did you get a log.txt file, and if so can you post up any sections that include the glGetError stuff (assuming it's different to what Fifth got). Fifth's problems seemed most likely to be something to do with fonts, and it's obviously a problem for you too, but I'm trying to work out if it's all the fonts or just the big font used in the menu. EDIT:My powers of deduction tell me that the only thing that could be causing this is the main menu font being too big for certain graphics cards to comfortably load. I've sorted this by shaving a bunch of characters out of that font, so if anyone was having trouble, re-downloading the (hopefully) fixed version should (hopefully) fix it. Just tried your fix. It worked! Yeah, the in-game text worked well last time too. It was just the title that was like that. Guess you figured it out, though. There's just one last problem. I don't suppose you could send me any red-blue 3-D glasses, could you?

Played the BW version, since I don't have those fancy hitech gogglemjizmos yer yappin' about. Looked quite sweet, actually! Good use of the resources, and cheesus can that bunny jump! On the negative side: slightly lethargic tempo. Also some strange collision issues, like when a pixel off from the landing the character is bumped away apparently with impetus. I also got the notorious general font out of overflow error reading my drive when trying to read the main menu. More precise: when I switched from 3D to 2D the "2" was represented by a boxious erzats, so you might have removed redundant characters a bit too zealously But given your time constraints and other stuff I know about since I'm a telepathic alien mutant I found it quite impressive! Nice one, sir!

Tried playing the game on non-3d mode, and it keeps freezing completely just after I talk to the old rabbit and before I reach the first apple. No error messages or anything, just freezes, music still playing.

No idea what that could be Has the dialogue completely finished? (i.e. subtitles disappeared from the screen after the last line which should be "With this power you can defeat the Lizardoids. Go!"). Do the leaves and the apple continue animating? Does pressing R reset the level, or does Esc take you back to the main menu? Is there anything that looks suspect at the bottom of log.txt?

I played it WITH my 3d glasses! I actually got these to do a 3d-3d renderer, but I've not come around to doing that yet, so they came to good use anyways. Things tended to slip off things, not sure that was intended, just an observation. Rabbitguy sucked at leaping forward. Great fun, really cool thing.

I'll have to try again with what you told me, but honestly it's really annoying to try and close the game when it freezes because it stays on top of everything else, so I'm not sure I'll get around to it.
Answering your questions, I didn't try R, nothing animates, the dialogue was already finished, I'm only half-sure I tried Esc to no success, and I didn't check the log (though I guess that shoudl be easy to do next time I can)

It sounds like unless there's something in log.txt (which should still be there if you had this hang the last time you ran the game), running it again isn't likely to give me much more information, so if closing the game after its frozen is a problem for you then I guess there's no point in you running it again I'll take another look through the code this evening, do some "speculative debugging" and look out for things that might be the cause. I'm not confident I'll be able to find anything, but it's got to be worth a try.

Liked: Interesting and engaging concept. The puzzles were logically thought out.
Disliked: The 3D sent my eyes funny. I think the red was a bit off. Would have been nice to be able to adjust the colours to fit my glasses perfectly. The platforming was a little floaty. It felt like the bunny was on the moon.
Conclusion: Nice game, but couldn't play too long before my eyes started hurting.
