Could people post or point me to some awesome examples of 16x16 character sprites, and other stuff from that "era"? I thought this one from Delicious was awesome:

I'm a programmer and aspiring designer, but one thing that's becoming clear is I need some basic art skills to make my games more compelling. I find that 16x16 is a comfortable format for me, with good trade off between visual appeal and time-investment. I've dabbled in it, and made some OK-ish stuff, but I want to get better at it, so I'm looking for some more examples to copy and learn from. Any tips/resources would be awesome!

I always liked the 4 colours sprites on Final Fantasy Adventure for the gameboy. They had a lot of character for me.

I'm sorry to go off-topic here, but can someone link me to that game in the OP's post? I understand that it's called Delicious, but when I google that I only find the flash game where you have to prepare food orders or something..

I love the art of that game and would like to see more of it Smiley Thanks in advance!

Oh boy, what a joyful surprise to see that here! Glad you like it. Smiley

Also, Lunanoko, thank you! There are plenty more assets where that mockup came from, once I make a devlog I will be more than happy to hit you a PM so you can see more.

Just gotta find a programmer.

As for the question - The Archer (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=18578.0), Grand Feather (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=8665.0) and Cavestory are pretty large inspirations that aim a bit more on the simplistic side.

I think what inspired me most was Cafe (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=2562.0)
