Hey, I've been working on an engine for two-ish months now, and it's complete enough to start on the actual game content. I'm looking for someone to act as both an artist for the game, and as a partner in the game's design. I'll hold a final say on things, but besides that we would be equal partners in design.

Here's some screenshots of things (programmer art warning, but I guess you should know that).

My hope is to make a mystery solving (not puzzles though) game in which you play a ghost. The tiles are 16x16 and the sprites are 16x32, so it would be awesome to have an SNES era tileset look. I could also change everything's size by powers of 2 if you'd like. It's just a hobby game, but if it somehow makes money we would split it 50/50 (I can do the soundtrack).

If it makes any difference, it's written in c++ with the allegro 5 framework, using mappy for map creation.

Please just ask if I missed anything important!

Edit: finished an outline of a track to test the audio systems, you can listen too. http://loganmcbroom.bandcamp.com/track/opening-maybe

These shots all look very well and the explanations make a lot of sense. I could definitely see this being a great project with tons of possibilities for any artist.

The only thing I personally think would be missing is info about the actual gameplay, if you've already designed a bit of that. We know the visual scale, atmosphere and things like on-screen movement, but what is actually going to happen in the game? Are you making an level-based action game? Something exploration-based, with a single world? An RPG? A zombie bacteria roguelike with insult-based fights?
Or were you looking to design the game from the ground up with your artist partner?

Ah yes, I should have mentioned, although I may have to throw in an insult based fighting mechanic now...

The idea is to solve mysteries by collecting evidence and talking to the right people. I've got a day night cycle that I am planning to code events around, so you figure out where to be and what you need to figure out what really happened. What happened not always being crimes, but generally anything that has a need to be solved. I also want to focus some on having some interesting collectible mechanics from sidequests that aren't needed to move through the story, but allow you to solve mysteries in different ways.

Another thing that I guess has more to do with atmosphere, is have the main area be a large, ambient feeling, and very vertical city, but have several smaller areas lying outside of that. I've always loved old rpgs where you would travel to a tropical island for a small part of the game.

That's the idea anyway. Those mechanics aren't heavily implemented, and what is there isn't heavily embedded. The genre/content of the game could be changed to something completely different if the idea is good. I hope that answers your question to some degree.

Updates and stuff:

I started learning pixel art myself to work on this, although I am still looking for a partner. Posting my own pixels here in the meantime.

I also scaled down the scope of the overworld for now, just so it's not too big of a project to think about finishing. Right now I'm putting together a bunch of placeholder art to map out a main mansion area.
